If I could give TJ Maxx a -500 review I would. I am an African American native of Birmingham, Alabama, and I came to South Carolina to celebrate my cousins birthday. While there I came to TJ Maxx to shop for a few things like I have done before many of times. When I was ready to try on my items, I asked the dressing room attendant if she could direct me to the restroom. The dressing room attendant stared in my face and did not respond, so I assumed that she didn’t hear me and I asked her again, she did not respond again. However, she did proceed to assist other Caucasian customers to the dressing room. I even heard a Caucasian customer ask her, “how many items can I take back to the dressing room?”, and she responded “however many you would like.” So after she responded to the customer I asked her again, “ma’am, could you please tell me where the restroom is?” And she continued to stare in my face and not respond. An African-American customer was coming out of the dressing room, and both of us looked at each other, and I asked her “Is there something wrong? Am I missing something?” And she shrugged her shoulders in a way that implied she just received that same treatment from her. I am mediately went to the front register and asked associate if I could speak with a supervisor or manager, and I told her my experience. She then proceeded to ask me if the incident happened back in the dressing room and I said yes, and I was alarmed because she identified where the incident took place!! Implying that this was not the first time that this had happened with this attendant!!! The associate said she would get her manager and her manager quickly came over to speak with me. I told her of the incident and I also mentioned that my racial profile experience is a reflection of TJ Maxx as a corporation and a brand. The supervisor stated that she agreed, and that she did not want this experience and associate to be a reflection of TJ Maxx. I followed her to the back and I asked the supervisor could she direct me to the restroom and she did. After leaving the restroom the dressing room attendant was still there, and she stared at me in a threatening way. I found the supervisor and she escorted me to the dressing room. When we got back there, I asked her why was the attendant still there and she said that she was waiting on me to come back to the dressing room to remove her. Once again, I mentioned that she will do this again if she remains employed and the next experience can potentially escalate. I’m highly disappointed and I’m offended that TJMaxx would employ anyone who racially profiles. I’ve financially contributed to TJMaxx’s success for years!!!! Never have I ever been disrespected and racially profiled at this level. I’ve learned if you want change, it starts with yourself. So no longer will I continue to financially fund TJMaxx to hire employees who racially profile. Period. I hope this is a lesson learned. It would be different if this was their first incident with this lady, however, they obviously had complaints before about her and yet she was still an employee there. Let that sink in. I left all of my items in the...
Read moreI decided to visit this T. J. Maxx store at 820 Woods Crossing Rd, Greenville, SC 29607, on April 16, 2025 in order to purchase some additional work clothes. After finding what I need, I went up to the men's fitting room counter side in order to check-in. As I approached the counter, the associate working the fitting room walked across from the women's side of the counter and started organizing clothes on a rack directly in front of me without speaking, nor asking if I needed assistance. I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe she will turn around in few seconds. Unfortunately, this T. J. Maxx associate never acknowledge me even after I politely said "excuse me" in effort to get her attention. Within 1-2 minutes of standing there waiting, two white woman walk approach the women's side of the counter and same T. J. Maxx lady associates walks from the men's side of the counter I am standing at, waiting her to assist me, and immediately starts assisting the two women. After assisting the first two woman, another white lady approaches the counter and the T. J Maxx associate starts to immediatly stop what she was doing and assisted the third lady. At this point, I stated "excuse me, I need to try on two pair of pants" and the T. J. Maxx associate response was "what can I help you with"? Again, I have tried to given the benefit of the doubt this T. J. Maxx associate was mentally preoccupied, but she was not too busy to noticed two different instance of three white women approaching to assist versus someone standing at the counter waiting to be acknowledge when no other customer where even at the counter. This was and is completely disrespectful and unprofessional. I brought this incident to the attention of two members of management. Hopefully this T. J. Maxx associate is addressed so that no one else, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity has to experience this level...
Read moreI bought a suitcase from this place. We left for a two week vacation. The next day the label fell off, plus the zipper was torn. The store manager Emily was so rude. Everyone in line heard our business. First we were told that we had it too long, then it was used and worn. I told her that no one told us that we couldn’t return it and her smart mouth had a nerve to say that we should have been a informed consumer. I guess use uninformed consumers should have cut our trip short to return the already damaged suitcase. We went to pick out another suitcase. Everyone I liked was damaged. We do have pictures to prove that. Emily needs to work from home because she definitely is not a people person and does not need to be a manager. Another customer said that her mom had the same issue with her over another suitcase. Our privacy was violated Everyone heard the conversation. She assumed that we had flown which was not the case. I have a recording of the entire conversation and informed an employee that we were recording. Instead of her worrying about us being an unformed consumer Emily with that big mouth should be removing the already damaged suitcases. I have never been so humiliated. So here are a couple of suitcases in the store now. She owes my husband and I an apology. The sad part is when we got outside a customer came up to us and said she had an encounter with her at another tj max and she was rude...
