Although I’m very upset about our evening, I’m still willing to give this establishment a four-star rating. This was my daughter’s first experience (my third) at the Wine House, and I chose it for the two of us to celebrate her birthday because I knew she would love the atmosphere and the wine selection. Which she did, in spades. What fell supremely short, though, was the service. We started out with a beautiful bottle of Pinot Noir, quickly opened and poured for us. After that, it was as if we were forgotten. Our water glasses sat empty, and we had to flag down our server for Every.Single.Thing we needed. Once we did get her attention and ordered, it took forever to get our food. For dessert, we hesitantly ordered the chocolate plate, realizing how long it had taken to get our food up until that time. Our hesitation proved valid. Twenty minutes passed and we had still not received it. Again, I had to flag down our server, cancel the dessert, and ask for the check. At that time, and only at that time, she apologized and asked if we would like the dessert to go. No, thank you! When she brought the check, she apologized again and offered dessert on the house. By this time, we were disappointed, pissed, and just wanted to leave. I am quick to offer grace and understanding for situations where I may see that an establishment is short staffed; yet, this did not appear to be the case tonight. This was supposed to be an evening of celebration and relaxation after a difficult week, and unfortunately we left feeling stressed and irritated. Had it not been an attempted celebration of my daughter’s birthday, I would have asked to speak to management. But it was already a ruined evening and I didn’t want to add that to it. My daughter said that she will give The Wine House another chance, as she did enjoy the things I knew she would. I’m thankful for that, as my first two experiences there were stellar.
UPDATE: The owner contacted me and we had a lovely conversation. I felt heard, understood, and appreciated as a customer. I have no doubt that his business will continue to thrive as long as he and his staff are making their customers feel as important and he made me feel today. As mentioned in my review above, my other visits to this establishment have been great experiences and I, as well as my daughter, had every intention of returning. But today absolutely solidified that intention and The Wine House may just become my neighborhood hangout. Many thanks for caring about...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find! Visiting Greenville for the wkend I wanted to go get a nice glass of wine without the whole “bar” feel. This place was right up my alley when I searched wine spots near me. The decor is absolutely beautiful. Inviting and warm. They had a happy hr going on when I arrived, $2 off a glass so yes I was very happy abt that lol. Live piano music as set to start at 6p, which really set the entire mood. I tried a Riesling and a sangria on tap. Both were delish, the sangria was definitely my fave as I had a couple glasses of that. I also got the trio platter, I picked pickles, smoked trout dip and curry chicken salad. All were absolutely delicious, went well with my drink choices. Loved the whole vibe...
