What started off as a consistently great place to order pizza has slowly but surely fizzled out in terms of product and service.
While I don’t necessarily mind undercooked pies (I just made sure to start asking for “well done”), I do mind when my delivered order is incorrect. The young guy who delivered our order brought Diet Coke, despite confirming Coke when placing the order over the phone. I told him that this was the wrong soda and he shrugged and said, “You definitely ordered Diet Coke.” How would he have known when I placed my order with a young female? When I asked him if he could rectify this, he responded with, “Well we’re really busy, it’s going to take me over an hour.” Sensing how obvious it was that he didn’t want to go back and swap it out, I told him to forget it and he left. Then when I glanced at the receipt he’d given me, the receipt clearly stated COKE. I called Merrell’s and the owner was very polite and apologetic and offered to send someone out with the correct soda. While it was a nice gesture, the other employee who brought it took about 45 minutes- we live 5 minutes away.
The second mishap involved our pizza being extremely undercooked and soggy, despite asking for “well done.” When my husband picked up his first piece, the entire contents slid off of the dough. Annoyed and frustrated, we took a break from ordering from Merrell's for a couple of months.
About a month ago we decided to give them another chance- The last FOUR (yes, you read that correctly) times we have tried to call and place an order, we have been placed on hold for almost ten minutes every single time. I don’t mind holding for a few minutes, but ten? On four separate occasions? Not a good way to drum up business; I wonder how many others besides us hung up and decided to order elsewhere.
I sincerely hope the owners consider making some changes to their current staff or telling them to get with the program. It’s a great pizza place with so much potential, yet the laziness and lack of customer service is sadly driving customers away. I always support local businesses and refuse to order “chain pizza,” but I can’t support this particular local pizza place if something doesn’t change in...
Read moreDecember 2024 update: I went to Merrell's for dinner on Sunday and was shocked to realize I was overcharged for my meal. While the staff were willing to make things right for me on this specific visit, they informed me that the prices had been increased despite those increases not being reflected in the menu. This is unacceptable and should never have been allowed to happen. You cannot update your prices in your point of sale system before providing updated menus to reflect those changes. This is illegal false advertising, and people are most likely walking in every day and paying more than they think they should be without realizing it. I ordered my meal under the impression I would be paying the prices listed on the menu, but instead I ended up feeling like I was being scammed and betrayed by a restaurant I've been a customer of for years. I was also charged over 50¢ per tiny cup of ranch on this visit where I'm normally given sufficient ranch at no extra cost, less than a week prior, with no notice that I would be charged for something that's typically offered for free.
Original review: Merrell's is a great place in Greer to grab a fresh, hot pizza. They have the best ranch in the upstate, it has a lot of dill and is perfect for their salads or for dipping your pizza crust into. I highly...
Read moreSimple food done exceptionally well! My wife and I love good pizza. We've eaten pizzas from all around the east coast, and this is probably some of, if not the best pizza we have ever had. Definitely the best pizza, this side of SC. We've ordered out from here several times, but our first time dining in was last night. It was an enjoyable experience all the way around. The wait staff was extremely nice and accommodating. The food was amazing, as usual, and the price was exactly right for what you get. The base of all pizza is a good crust, and their crust is not only hand tossed.. and when I say hand tossed, I mean actually hand tossed. The flavor of the crust is perfect. The sause perfectly accompanies the crust & toppings. And the cheese is fresh. We've tried several pizzas from here and you can't go wrong with anything off this menu. The appetizers are the same way. Our personal favorite for appetizers, is the corn, cheese, and bacon dip. Our favorite pizza besides what you'd normally get, would have to be the buffalo chicken pizza. Their homemade ranch is a little unique compared to others, and it's absolutely delicious. All around a great place for...
