Short answer: Terrible service, unsure if actually vegan, rude, and don't ever go. Long answer below.
I used to really enjoy this place as it was a great way to get cheap, good, vegan Thai food. But two recent experiences have completely killed this place for me and all I can do is vehemently recommend no one go here.
On the 12th of this month, I went here with my family for supper and to place a large pick up order for the 17th. One of the party had a sesame allergy and we asked about if sesame was used in anything. The waitress seemed confused and only seemed to understand what we meant and had to clarify that it was to sesame seeds and specifically asked about the sesame oil for cooking just in case and she said no we just use the normal oil and she couldn't remember what it was called. During the conversation, my mother jokingly threw out lard since and the waitress jumped on that saying that they use lard. When I said that lard isn't vegan, she backed up and said they use butter. Which still isn't vegan. Then she backtracked further and said that they use butter if someone requests it but never stated what they actually use but despite her not knowing, my mother didn't die so it wasn't sesame oil.
At the end of dinner, I still placed my order because this was waitress wasn't someone I had ever dealt with before and this was the first bad experience I had ever had. I placed an order for pick up for 8pm on the 17th for roughly $200 worth of food for a large party with both the waitress that helped us that night and an employee I had seen there before. Everything went smoothly with placing the order. They took my name, my phone number, the full order, time and date of pick up, and made sure to give me their phone number and names (which I forget but the ladies that helped me were mother and daughter with names starting with A). They said to call if anything changed and said that it would be no problem.
On the 17th, I called and spoke with them confirming that I still wanted everything. I also did ask if there was any chance they would have it finished early but stated that if not, it was no issue. At this point, they said they would call if they could but didn't sound likely which was fine because I set it for 8. So, I went there with a small group to pick up the food and walk through the door at 8.
The food was not ready and when we asked how long it would be, the answer was a half hour. This was bothersome as we had placed this order well in advance but it was just a half hour so we sat. After a half hour passed, they said it would be longer and that they would bring it to the table that we were sitting at while we were waiting.
At 9, I went up again to ask about the food and they opened the curtain to the kitchen slightly to show the boxes of food being put together. At this point, I was rather upset and asked about if we could get a discount since we had placed this order for a specific pick up time almost a week in advance due to its size and we still had to wait an hour for it to be ready.
They were completely unapologetic saying that they were busy (she said that they had 3 tables) and couldn't get to my food. And that it was now past closing. Both of which I pointed out were not my fault. My order was in before anyone else's and it wasn't my fault that they stayed till after closing when I gave them almost a full week's notice and it was supposed to have been ready an hour earlier. Instead of being apologetic, it seemed like they were trying to blame me entirely for the situation when I placed the order in advance and even waited an hour for food that should...
Read moreWe love that there is a vegan restaurant near Greenville that has so many choices. There are so many choices that it's hard to decide what to select. Good lunch and dinner combinations to choose from. It was our 13 year old grand daughter's first time to eat any Thai food. She chose the pineapple fried rice and loved it. My wife and I enjoyed our combinations. We eat 95% vegan but we try to choose recipes that are low in fat. We will need to inquire what the best choices would be or if we could tweak the recipe to be lower in fat. It's probably possible because we could see through the window that each selection is individually prepared. It wasn't a busy time because it was a Saturday lunch. There was only one server, and they didn't need any others. She was very nice, but seemed timid, short on words, and only answered questions when asked. It could have been fear of COVID concerns with customers or maybe herself, so we can't really fault her during this pandemic period. Our grand daughter was not fond of the darker atmosphere, but my wife and I were OK, and just told her that was common in some restaurants. Our grand daughter may not be used to dimly lit restaurants. We will probably return and try it again and see if we can have some low...
Read moreThis place has three things going for it.
Food usually is good. Your spring rolls maybe cooked a little on the dark side occasionally, but in general it is good. Affordable. Prices have remained low during inflation. All vegan. That might be obvious from the name but with dishes like sweet chili fish you have to check twice.
So all good right? Nah. This place has several things against them.
Poor service. I have been going there for years and never greeted as if they knew who I was. Compare to Herbal Farmercy where you get hugs on 2nd visit. Slow. If you are not their first call, give it about 20 more minutes than what they tell you. Cleanliness. I have been in there more than once when tables were not bussed timely; leaving behind food scraps on tables.
Anyhoo, pick your poison or have set expectations.. Food is good, but service is questionable. I'm sure a lot of that coincides with the affordability.
It is vegan; we don't want it to close; we just want...
