Hy-Vee Market Grille — Restaurant in Grimes

This was unexpected. I went in expecting a grocery store bar, and what I found was a delight. The bartender, Timothy, was a treasure. He is personable and kind, and he really knows the art of making a good cocktail. His old fashioned was based on ideas picked up from mixology texts such as Liquid Intelligence and Cocktail Codex. He has been making drinks for 17 years, and his Mai tai and old fashioneds are awesome. Timothy was a genuine and open guy, and made me forget I was at a grocery store bar.

The food was good from both the boneless wings to the Chinese. The portions were huge!

We came here from Altoona to specifically to eat at this location planning to have a delicious breakfast. The hostess took our drink order and they were brought by "our waitress". She didn't bring a drink for our kid so we asked her for one. She said she would get it and then come back to take our order. We sat there for almost 20 minutes while three tables seated after us got their orders taken. We decided to leave at this point. We have always loved this Hyvee and were pretty disappointed. Almost walked away after standing at hostess station for quite some time and not being greeted. Food was adequate if not very warm. Hair in one plate. Long dark hair which none of us had. In the middle of our meal, someone stopped by to ask if our ketchup was full?? We were not using it so I am not sure why we had to stop our conversation to answer.
