UPDATE October 2024: After more than four dozen positive dining experiences at Bucci, we finally had our first big negative test one. We sat at the bar because we like to watch the kitchen staff work their magic, but on this night the chef was doing his best Gordon Ramsay impersonation, chewing out both the cooks and the servers equally. He even dropped a couple of f-bombs that everyone at the bar heard. It was very off-putting and turned a so-so evening into a poor one.
The Hot Hot Spaghetti was not anything close to what we are used to. It’s my wife’s favorite dish, but this time they changed the preparation. Instead of large whole shrimp, they chopped the shrimp up. My wife said no way was the amount of shrimp the same as before. There were also no Hungarian peppers in the dish. We asked the server about it and she dismissed our concern and simply replied that this was the new way the dish was being prepared. 🤔 We thought it was an odd response.
We ordered a bottle of wine and the one we got was not the one on the menu. My fault for not looking closely when it was presented…I noticed the vintage was off by a year and did t want to make aka big deal of it….but after it was opened I noticed it wasn’t a Domaine Drouhin but a Louis Latour. Again, my fault. But a $120 bottle of wine should come out correctly.
At any rate, we will chalk this up to a bad night by the restaurant and will be eager to see what our next visit brings us.
Best eatery in the Grosse Pointes. Feels and tastes like a NYC Italian restaurant. Elegant atmosphere, top-notch wait staff, reasonable prices. We go every...
Read moreEdit as of June 25, 2024: Bucci has declined in quality and increased in price since the last time we were here last year. The whitefish is smaller, no longer has any sauce, and tasted fishy. The veal romana was also smaller and not as tasty. You have to pay $9 for a tiny cup of soup with your meal and $4 for any bread basket refills. Even the toasted almond cake looked half the size and didn’t have any caramel drizzle. I’m highly disappointed in how expensive the place is for the lower quality we were given. It was nearly $200 for just 3 people. The service was also slower compared to last year. I’d also like to mention that there is no sign or big letters saying Bucci for the restaurant outside, and you have to squint to see “Bucci” in small letters above the door.
July 19, 2023: I had a wonderful dinner at this place. This was the first time I had roasted watermelon and it was great. The hot-hot linguini I had with shrimp and banana peppers was delicious and slightly spicy. My relative said her whitefish was one of the best she’s ever had. The toasted almond cake for dessert tasted like tiramisu and was excellent. Our waitress provided...
Read moreThis past Friday my aunt took me to Bucci for the first time. It opens at 5pm, when I first walked in I was so excited because of the service. We walked in and the staff greeted us and was soooo nice. Lights dim, elegant vibe. We sat at the bar because we didn't have reservations, they were more than happy to seat us. I love the open kitchen, we sat and watched the chef and the kitchen staff do their thing and I loved every minute of it. I felt like I was on a cooking show, watching the orders come in and fresh food come out, the chef yells out the order and everyone starts prepping. The food......... I had the artichoke soup to start, I didn't know what to expect but it was delicious. For entrée I had the lobster risotto which was one of the specials that night. Omg must have. Fresh lobster, risotto was creamy and flavorful. My aunt had the chicken parmesan, she absolutely loved it. I think coming back and sitting at the bar will be my go to. Thank you for an amazing first experience. I will definitely be back to try some...
