China Chef — Restaurant in Grosse Pointe Woods

very good food, quick and friendly service. i tried this place a couple of years ago and did not care for the recipes although the service has always been friendly. i saw they were under new ownership and had to give it another try.

i love that they offer options for the combo meals, you can choose between an egg roll or 2 pieces of crab rangoon. you can also upgrade from plain fried rice to any other fried rice for an additional fee ($3+). i got the general tso combo with vegetable fried rice and everything was fresh, hot and delicious. they also ask what spice level you want for the general tso, they don’t do this at a lot of other places i’ve tried. we got the shrimp fried rice as well and they use the plump, juicy shrimp and not the small coin-sized shrimp. everything exceeded my expectations, china chef will definitely be added to the...

UPDATE as of 4/9/25: This restaurant is under new management and unfortunately the food is no longer the same. I've been going here for decades and Im sad to say that I will now have to find another Chinese Food restaurant. I gave them 2 different chances and I was disappointed each time. The food now is too greasy and some food items like the fried shrimp didnt even have seasoning. The food is only ok but the previous owners wowed your socks off and kept you coming back for more. Now I'm on a quest to find a new Chinese food spot because I can't try this one again.

I was in the area for some food. The moment I walked it, I could smell the yummy food. They have a wide variety of sodas, which not many places have. I had come a bit late so my gravy was naturally cooling off so it was thick/watery but was awesome. The service is nice and if you have a problem, they get it fixed as fast as possible. They give a reasonable quantity of food for the reasonable prices they provide on the menu. I also like how sometimes, you pay beforehand if you get there early so it’s efficient for both sides.
