I grew up downriver (Southgate / Wyandotte / Trenton). There were killer bakeries, meat markets and fruit markets everywhere I turned. I also spent 10 years as an "old school" meat cutter so I am not only qualified to identify good food but I can make it too. Telly's has a great atmosphere and a wonderful woman served us at the bar on Saturday. I tried the famous burger and although I think the quality of the meat might be there because it was hand made (not perfect round and frozen), I was disappointed. It is unarguable that the cook covered the burger and squirted water under the lid. You can't do that and expect to hold "best burger". That is not how you cook meat. I have time, I can wait for the meat to cook one side first, then flip, add bacon and provolone and let cook....no lid. If you only flip once, using heat that will sear, you can achieve an actual medium rare without endangering anyone and I will be able to tell if it is the " best burger. But when you salt it and steam it, it dries up and makes me want to trade my beer for a glass of milk like I used to do when my mom killed the pork chops all over again. You can only charge $10 for a burger and $1 more for cheese, $1 for bacon then kill it again once for people who get it. It won't bring me back twice and you already dupped me by saying "best burger" so no what? When will restaurants understand that we will pay for quality food over and over but I will only add you to the list of Sysco food slingers once. St. Clair Shores and Grosse Point are full of them! Be different! Go "old...
Read moreOh Telly's, you are such a fave of my family, friends that it pains me to write a less than positive review. My friends and I love Martini Wednesdays and we sit at the bar and order a couple of apps to share. I always order Tropical Paradise and my friend orders the Pineapple Upside Down Cake martini. When we tasted our drinks, we both noted they were not what we ordered. We asked the female bartender if she had given us the wrong drinks and she insisted she had served us what we ordered. Because we had each sipped our drink, we chose not to switch due to germs. When we ordered a second round, we asked her to make sure she gave each of us what we ordered....she served the same drinks to each of us. When we told her she had us mixed up again, she got an attitude and then walked away mid sentence never to return. It crossed our minds that maybe we were wrong and when the male bartender came on the scene, we asked him to identify what we had been served and he confirmed that we had been served the wrong martinis. He proceeded to make me a new Tropical Paradise. Arguing with a customer just to be a right fighter is the worst customer service and especially if you...
Read moreI would say they deserve 0 stars but Iâm okay with them getting 1 because the cosmo was strong but when I say the food is just nasty! I came for a salad but decided to get wings and the spinach dip but I didnât even want to order my salad because of how horrible the appetizers were. All of it was just nasty. First of all why does this establishment even have what I like to call âcheap coney wing dingsâ. They are overly battered (see photo) werenât tossed at all (sauce dripped on top), fake meat and just plain wrong and donât belong in a restaurant!! Then how do you mess up spinach dip? I told the waitress I was simply ready for the bill, she asked if I wanted a box for the uneaten food and I told her ânoâ. When I was a waitress and I told my manager a customer was unhappy they would come speak to you and assess the situation and that never happened and then didnât offer to adjust the bill either. I am disappointed in the waitress and management for dropping the ball and making me a happier customer. Wonât...
