We stopped at The Hangout as we were just getting into town in hopes of carrying on a tradition with our family. We have to vacation eith a strict budget, and this was one stop we made an allowance for as we had been the year prior coming into town and wanted to maintain teh tradition with our kids. We quickly realized there was a collegiate beach volleyball tournament happening, but that didn't deter us. We parked and went inside with our guests who were joining us this year as well. We had a group of 12 and were going to be seated right away, to our surprise. When we got to the table, it already had 3 people at it. The hostess spoke to these men, but then looked around panickingly and asked if we could try this other table beside it. She was very sweet, and no weight of this review is on her. She was just trying to do her job. It was an 8 seater, so I just said we could try. Quickly realized that wasn't going to fit enough chairs, but in the meantime, learned our husband's had gone missing as the waitress came to start taking our drink order and we noticed they weren't with us anymore. We told her that there were still more people to seat, so they went to see what to do. We were moved to a large, very nice table on a lower, quieter deck, which I felt like could have been offered in the first place. Still no husbands. When the husbands finally returned after we had been seated for 10 minutes, we learned they had been chased down by someone who was requiring $20 parking charge (I'm assuming because of the tournament, which by the way, ended while we were there) amd had to go back outside. Our waitress was friendly, but I believe we heard "in just a second" 50 times during the entire visit. From arrival to the time we finally got our drinks was 45 minutes. I would cut slack if this were an instance if busy and ivwrwhelm, but I sat and watched as the waitress was doing her own personal, lala land dance (not the ines they do altogether) while we are sitting staring at her and waiting with menus in hand. We ordered the same thing we got last year- a crab and a shrimp bucket, and by this point I just wanted to cry. Three potatoes. One ear of corn. A single sausage. $40 and more a piece. The whole experience really started our trip off on a stressful note, and we definitely won't be dining at the hangout again. Over priced for what you get. Overrated. So loud. Buy the ingredients and have your own boil at the house that will feed everyone for...

If you're looking for a spot in Gulf Shores where the vibes are as chill as the sea breeze, The Hangout is your go-to. This place isn't just a restaurant; it's a full-blown beach party where the sun, sand, and seafood come together to form a trifecta of awesomeness.
First off, the location is prime. Right on the beach, The Hangout boasts views that could make a postcard jealous. But it's not just about the scenery; it's about the experience. The atmosphere here is like a perpetual summer festival. Live music, games for the kids (and let's be honest, the kids at heart), and an ambiance that screams "vacation mode activated."
The food? Imagine if your taste buds decided to throw a beach party. The menu is a seafood lover's dream, with everything from the freshest Gulf shrimp to oysters that'll make you contemplate moving to Gulf Shores permanently. Their Hangout Burger is legendary, a testament to the fact that even landlubbers can have a blast here. And don't even get me started on the shakes - they're like liquid happiness in a cup.
Service at The Hangout is like the tide - consistently good. The staff here are all about making your day brighter, with smiles that could guide you back to shore if you got lost in the fun. They're quick, friendly, and know how to keep the good times rolling.
Now, for the crowd: expect a mix of everyone from families enjoying their annual beach trip to groups of friends looking for a good time. It's the kind of place where you might leave with new friends because everyone's in on the fun.
One small caveat - it's popular. Like, really popular. So, you might find yourself waiting for a table, but here's the thing: the wait is part of the experience. You can play games, listen to music, or simply soak up the beach vibe while you wait.
In summary, The Hangout in Gulf Shores, Alabama, isn't just a place to eat; it's where memories are made, laughter is shared, and the beach lifestyle is celebrated. Whether you're there for the food, the view, or the festive atmosphere, you'll leave with a little piece of summer in your heart. Just remember, the good times here don't hang out; they live here. Read moreWhen we arrived, there was very poor guidance in place. There were no signs that gave instructions of their process. When I asked the staff, I was sent to 3 different places again, with very poor instructions. Our party waited 40 minutes to be seated. We sat down and ordered our drinks. We informed the wait staff that we were not going to be eating. A short while later, a manager named Meagan came to our table to explain that they tried to save the seats for those people who were eating. Megan was extremely rude and unprofessional. In fact, she stated, "we can not have people sitting here 4 hours just drinking." We had not even received all of our drinks. I felt that the wait staff could have relayed that to us. In any case we waited to receive our drinks then moved to an outside area that was by this time filled with people and offered limited seating. I did ask to speak to another manager and Ben came to speak with me. I explained to him that we were not told that it was a policy to order food if you sat at the table. Ben responded that is not really their policy. He went on to say you have moved from the table now so there's nothing that I can do. Even though both tables were still empty and remained empty for the next 20 minutes. Overall, the Hangout appears to be a family, friendly place. The atmosphere seems fun and inviting. I feel that there should be more instructions in place for first time visitors and everyone should be on the same page. I can't imagine how Meagan even attained the position of manager. Meagan should be retrained. I would never have such an unprofessional person on management staff as she was a very poor representation of the company. Meagan needs to be retrained on customer service, adaptive communication skills, and problem solving skills. Ben was helpful and went above and beyond to resolve the issue. He walked with me outside and found all 11 of us a place to sit as it was very crowded by this time and offered free appetizers for our...
