My wife's dad is 80 years old, soon to be 81. He grew up in Gulfport, but hasn't been back much over the years. He is a Navy man, worked almost 30 years in the steel mill, and gave me the most precious gift any man can give another. He raised a beautiful, brilliant woman to become my wife. We came to Gulfport to celebrate him, hear stories about his childhood, and see the places he still remembers to this day. When we were trying to decide where to eat, he mentioned Shaggy's. I was pretty skeptical. But, we are here for him and followed his suggestion.
Best. Suggestion. Ever.
The food was fantastic. Every single thing that hit our table was delicious. It's easy to overcook fried foods, especially shrimp. Not these guys. The Jerk Shrimp was amazing. Our server suggested I get it with the sauce on the side, to control the amount on each bite. Good call. The coconut shrimp was probably the best I've ever tried, and the sauce was out of this world. My daughter got a burger that was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully.
You have to order the Gator Bites. Don't overthink it, just get them.
The food was amazing, but the service just about puts the food to shame. We were waited on, drink orders taken, refills refilled, plates cleared.... by an ARMY of young people who could rival the best, most polite people Chic-Fil-A could put forward. Not a knock on CFA, I love the Lord's Chicken, but man, were these kids TOP NOTCH!
Our server came to me toward the end of the meal to let me know that her shift was ending and another young lady was to take over. I started reaching for my wallet to take care of the check, and she STOPPED ME. She said that the other girl would handle it, but the main thing was that she wanted to make sure we were taken care of! I told her I didn't mind paying now, she shook it off and said "it's all about the teamwork!"
Shaggy, whoever you are, look at my reviews. I almost never. But... you guys got it going ON! And you deserve every star I can send you! We live almost 400 miles from here, but we will be back!
I mean, the old man's birthday is in less than two...
Read moreFirst time visiting Shaggy's on 2/14/2023; was quite impressed with how the crew worked together like a fine-oiled machine. Everyone was very nice and attentive. Now on to the food. I had the Trigger Fish over Coconut rice while my husband, Shawn, had the Captain's Platter. We shared an appetizer of Coconut shrimp w/ Orange Zing sauce. When I say Shawn is not adventurous in trying new foods, especially of the sauce category, he's definitely not one to jump in, however, this time, he did a taste test and before I knew it, he was dipping like a pro. The food/service was so good, we couldn't decide to go anywhere else the following day, so it brought us back to Shaggy's a second day in a row. This time we both tried the Red Snapper Specialty - Red Snapper over Coconut Rice with Sherry Cream sauce, served up with a Miami Vice frozen adult drink. Then a sneaky waitress, Ren, got me with a birthday brownie...singing included by the Shaggy Team. As Biloxi/Gulfport area has in recent years become one of our favorite places to relax, we cannot recommend Shaggy's enough to any newcomers/tourists. We cannot stress enough that the service was impeccable, and even with a shift change on our second visit, we were promptly taken care of and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We would like shout out to the folks that took care of us; one young man we didn't get his name, but he was the fella that transported the food out of the kitchen and he sashayed and balanced that food like nobody's business. From the first day, kudos to Mary and Abbie (and fella who transported food from the kitchen) and Bree; 2nd day, Brandon, Ren, Megan, (and fella from kitchen). I'd have to say the whole team seem to enjoy their jobs; upon arriving the 2nd day, I noticed one of the servers was outside dancing while he worked. Happy folks at Shaggy's so it is no surprised they do a good job. We give them 5 stars and we WILL be going back to Shaggy's in Gulfport. Great job, Team Shaggy! We visited Shaggy’s Gulfport for the first time and were greeted with a brief 15-minute wait for a party of three—just enough time to soak in the laid-back, coastal ambiance. The Gulf vibe is strong here, with breezy decor and a welcoming atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a relaxed dining experience.
Service: From the moment we arrived to the moment we left full and happy, the staff was consistently friendly and attentive. Whether you're walking in for the first time or heading out after a great meal, the service makes you feel like a regular.
Appetizer: We started with the Blackened Shrimp Spinach Dip. The flavor was spot-on—rich, creamy, and well-seasoned. The only downside was the chips, which could’ve been fresher to match the quality of the dip.
Entrees: Seafood Mac & Cheese: A standout dish. Generous portions, large shrimp, and a creamy, flavorful sauce that paired beautifully with the buttered toast. Shrimp Trio: This plate was loaded with shrimp and didn’t disappoint. The coconut shrimp stole the show—crispy, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The bacon-wrapped shrimp added a nice jalapeño kick, while the butter garlic shrimp, though well-cooked, could use a bit more seasoning to elevate the dish. Yellowfin Tuna Bowl: A lighter option that impressed. The tuna was fresh and high-quality, served over a small portion of jasmine rice with just the right stickiness. The sesame seeds and spicy mayo added depth, and the avocado and cucumber rounded it out nicely. The side salad was a refreshing touch.
Final Thoughts: Shaggy’s offers much more than we had time to try, but we’ll definitely be back—if only to enjoy the views and sip a well-crafted adult cocktail. Whether you're craving seafood or just want to unwind by the water, this spot delivers on both flavor...
