I ordered the Baked Feta, the squash souffle, beef tenderloin 8oz filet with red wine reduction and it was served with asparagus, potato's and sauteed portebello mushrooms and the rosemary lemon creme brulee for desert. We had three glasses of wine, iced tea, water and diet coke. We arrived about 8pm and had a table by the window. Our first visit. I was not happy to see the "substitution and omissions politely declined" box on the menu and was set to be angry. My wife didn't order a meal because of that. However thee food was very very very good. The feta was really enough cheese for four as an appetizer. The roasted tomatoes and pesto served to soften the texture of the somewhat grainy texture of the cheese and provided a nice balance of flavors that I really enjoyed. The squash souffle was PERFECT! The flavor of the squash shown through with a light and delicate feel. The filet ordered medium rare was also correct. The steak seasoned again perfectly to my taste with the red wine reduction complimenting the beef while not overpowering and stealing the show. Great steak The gratin potatoes were cooked just so with cream to just the right "bite" to the potatoes and a light taste of cream and potatoes as opposed to what expected to be cheese and onion. AWESOME! The sauteed mushrooms were also just right a great compliment to the plate. The creme brulee was very good as well with a berry and mint garnish. We really felt the server was ready for us to go before desert and the seats were really not comfortable to us. The hostess. Hurried to set our table so I did not want to ask to move to what looked like more comfortable seats. I out my credit card on the table to get the check. We finished at 910 pm. No one rushed us, but the seating and the servers fading friendliness said it was time. They close at 9pm. I didn't really fault the server for our feeling since the food really was the star. We had lots of drinks and the server would always ask if we wanted refills instead of just brining tea and water..and diet coke. Lots of steps. So, I don't fault him as u see by my rating. If you have a chance to go GO! Get a low top table and forget looking out the window. The food is what you will want to see and I will bet you will be happy. Great...
Read moreI do so hope these people let me come back to dine here again. My mother and I went here to celebrate her 83rd birthday. We were a few minutes late when we arrived at the wrong restaurant, and by the time we left there and figured out how to reach the old town stock house, we had called OTSH twice to tell them we were still on our way but somewhat lost and in need of directions, we had gone down the same one-way street the wrong way (once to the fanfare of a police car’s lights, though thankfully not to the welcome of a traffic ticket), and I had gotten into a bit of a tizzy. The people at OTSH were exceptionally helpful, and someone walked out into the alley behind the restaurant to wave us toward the correct eatery, which was sadly necessary after we had mistakenly entered a sweetly Santa and Christmas ornament-festooned private home that was along the same road and apologized our way out of its owners’ evening’s interruption. The drinks and food were more than worth our middle-class white girl struggle to find OTSH. I wanted everything on the menu, but Mama’s counsel prevailed, and we settled for reasonable portions. The sliders, the spinach salad, and the scallops were fit for my dear mother, and the dark chocolate bread pudding was graced with a single slim candle when the lovely server named Lex brought it out to us - so great to have a delicious and Mama-worthy birthday dessert without embarrassing fanfare! I can’t say I love the food and service at OTSH more than I love Mama, but I sure do love...
Read moreOur son hosted a belated 50th anniversary dinner for my wife and I along with his siblings. He picked my favorite restaurant, Old Town Stock House. It had been a long time since my last visit due to a Combination of things but I was so looking forward to a return. Crystal is truly gifted at lamb and I can never manage to select anything else. Alas I was heartbroken that for the first time ever, there was no lamb offering. But I’m here to tell you friends, sometimes change is good. In this case, it was magnificent. I ordered the osso bucco, which she offered using pork Instead of the veal version I’ve always tried. I sit here typing with one hand, as the other is over my heart as I state that it was truly one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in my life! And instead off the more commonly served Creamed spinach, She tapped into her southern roots and served creamed collards, a version I found far superior. I’m not even going to attempt to describe the sauce and other things on my plate, because to be honest, at that point I probably was a candidate for the Betty Ford clinic for food euphoria! If I had known that my 50th anniversary dinner was going to be this special, I would’ve gotten married sooner. Thanks to Crystal and her staff, it was a truly memorable...
