Not sure what happened here. Previously this was my wife's favorite place to go.
We got the big mike steak like we usually do with the onion petals, two waters.
There is a surcharge due to beef prices of around $6, but somehow the bill went from being around $68 to $90 this is before the tip of course.
This place had a very generous military discount and while we don't live close it was a great perk. The old discount was like 15% or 25% of the actual entree steak for the veteran which was significant. When we dined there last night on a bill of like 95 the discount was $7.6 which came out around 8% or so. We had the big mike which has a base price of $60 plus the $6 surcharge we did add the extra 2 sides special they offer which I remember being $8.50 but we were charged an additional $2.50 on top of that, although the server did not notify us that there would be an upcharge for changing a salad to broccoli?, so I am not sure where the increase came in from.
Normally the foods really great here but this time the fries were honestly some of the worst steak fries I've had a restaurant.
The steak had good flavor, but it was definitely in the medium well range (we ordered medium rare) and it had a touch of pink but was otherwise very done. We did not bother sending the steak back as by this time it was around 7:20, we sat down around 6:40 and if you're not going to send a steak back, no real point in sending the fries back.
The last thing I will mention and this is one of those small things that really is huge. Sometime between now and last year they painted the interior of the restaurant with a pretty white paint and it looks great, but the VOCs from whatever paint they used is insanely aromatic. I thought they had painted it yesterday the smell was so strong, it really screws with your appetite when the entire restaurant smells like a can of paint. It was raining yesterday so we could not but highly recommend if you try Big Mike's sitting on the patio, there's guntersville lake, its a beautiful view and you'll avoid the headache inducing...
Read moreI have to say I was extremely disappointed with my visit to Big Mike’s Steakhouse in Guntersville tonight. We normally go to On Top of the River but decided to give Mike’s a try for a date night with my husband. We ordered an appetizer, two cup/bowl soup, two entrees and a glass of wine. We waited 15 to 20 minutes for the appetizer. When the appetizer arrived, we had to ask for plates and waited another 5-10 minutes for these plates. We thought the salad and soup would come next but to our surprise our entrees arrived. We told the server that we were suppose to have soup but just don’t bring it at this point. He said he would tell inform our waitress. Shortly as we were eating our entrees, the waitress brings two soups and a salad. We told her we would need to take those to go or she could take them back. She said she would pack them to go. We still have not received the glass of red wine. She comes back with the salad in a to go box and brought disposable cups for us to pack up the soup. The small two person table was full of dish’s and food. I asked her to please pack this soup up, we do not have any room at the table. My husband was half way done with his steak and asked about the wine again. He finally received the wine only minutes before we finished eating. My husband enjoyed his steak but the stacked crab cake/green tomato/shrimp dish was not very good. I only ate half and left the remainder for the trash. There was no manager walking around to check on staff or ask about the service. This was the worst dining experience I have had in a restaurant for many years, especially paying over $100 for a meal for two. The dirty dishes were never cleared from our table until after we left the restaurant. I have lived all over the world and dined in some amazing restaurants. I cannot recommend this restaurant. Spend your money somewhere...

I’ve had Big Mike’s steakhouse twice now.
When I walked in (both times), it was standing room only, both inside and outside. I fully expected a 1.5-2 hour wait. Both times, we were seated within 20-25 minutes! They are always very timely with wait times.
We ordered appetizers, alcoholic drinks, regular drinks, and our entree’s all at one time. Both appetizers were out within 10 minutes. The minute we finished them, our salads and bread came out. And as we finished those, our amazing entrees hit the table. Timing was incredibly perfect, for everything!
Every part of our meal was incredible- the appetizers tasted amazing. My smothered Ribeye…. Cooked to perfection, just like I asked for. The flavor was remarkable! The loaded baked potato wasn’t too soft, not too hard, and all of the ingredients worked together so well. My dates crab claws were a little on the “too fried” side, but we’re still insanely delicious. She isn’t a lover of fried things in general, but decided to try them once again over the also amazing shrimp that we had last time, and she still found them delectable!
The waitress was outstanding and very attentive, but not annoying. The bartender was great, and the clean up crew was on point!
We ordered a slice of blueberry cheesecake, and strawberry cheesecake to go. We can’t wait to try them, as they also look incredible!
As a business owner myself, I understand that there are hundreds of things that can go wrong on any given night, especially in the food industry. Big Mike’s NAILED everything, both times.
Big Mike’s gets as many stars as I can give. Just know that if there were 100 stars, they’d get it.
The only downside I can think of, is they don’t have wheelchairs to roll you out of there after...
