Okay, here is the breakdown. I want to give everyone looking to come here a genuine and honest review of missys. This place is worth an hour plus drive to go to if you live in the city.
This is a family run business and the people that work here at missys are generally good people that want to provide you the best baked goods they can put out. The customer service is always on point and they will always fix an order if you come to them with a problem. I have had several problems, they are definitely not perfect everytime, but they are pretty incredibly close. The main missys location where their baked goods come from is the most inconsistent if I'm ordering directly from that facility.
Now lets start with the baked goods/donuts. Hands down these are the top 3 donuts in about an 80 mile radius of OKC and the Guthrie area. I've been to polar donuts, hurts, daylight donuts, Krispy Kreme, etc. The donuts themselves (fresh in the morning from 6-11 am) are some of the best donuts I've ever had. After about 1 pm the quality goes down to just average donuts. I have also been to Jupiter donuts in Florida and even five-o donuts and Missy's donuts, in my opinion, are better in most aspects. Their variety is quite lacking but they do the basics the best. They also have good fruit combo donuts and there cake donuts I can say without a doubt are the best I have had, period. The texture of all their donuts are the best I've had because of their consistent texture. They are not too oily, light, and have the perfect chew. Their cakes like the hummingbird cake and chocolate cakes are also amazing, but only when ordering at the I35 location because they give you a better portion and missy gives them the better stock. The baked breads are pretty good as well, but that's not what I go here for.
Prices are also fair, but sometimes you can get smaller portions from time to time that can make the prices seem high. Again, this mostly happens at their main bakery location.
The atmosphere of missys is good. It's nothing to write home about. The dinning room is clean and the surfaces in the back are clean. The one problem that I would say is the kitchen seems quite dated when looking into it and some areas like the ceiling look quite dirty/very dated and need a good clean or update.
I really hope everyone in Oklahoma gives this place a try because it is an...
Read moreGreat old school bakery that has figured out how to do things correctly and still does it that way. Been in their a ton of times and while I always want to try their sandwiches am always not there at the right time to try them but assume they are outstanding.
I am not a huge donut fan. Am too particular, as I like them but am always disappointed that they are not as good as they should be. But all the ones at Missy's are perfect, where you want cake or yeast, or a fritter or specialty. This is one of the few places that I get multiple items, to try new things and everything has been excellent. Also not overly sweet and sugary, which I know sounds odd, but their cake donuts are like cake, which sounds obvious but this is not the case everywhere. The sugar glaze is lighter on the yeast donuts, so more delicate but still sufficiently sweet. Yeah sounds like a contradiction, but my take on really perfect donuts. Great flavor but not so sugary that you feel that you shouldn't have had it. Might be confusing but my attempt to describe my idea of donut perfection, which is Missy's.
Oh, the lemon blueberry bread is also perfection, no wait I already said everything they make is great, but the lemon blueberry has real blueberries, probably grown locally. They also will sell and slice the breads they use for the sandwiches everyone raves about, and since bread is a major factor to a great sandwich you get a huge jump when you make one at home.
A true gem and right off I-35 in Guthrie, get anything and thank me later. Been a customer for far more years than I...
Read moreATTENTION This review is for the benefit of anyone thinking about working for this company. Speaking as someone who worked as a baker at the I-35 location for a few months shy of a year.
The owner was exceedingly rude and nearly cruel on a near daily basis to the mostly young (high-school age) staff, raising his voice and yelling, verbally abusing them, etc.
If the staff received a tip, they were told to put it in the tip jar, which was never divided between the staff at the end of the day.
I can't speak for others working for the company, but i was never paid time and one half for overtime hours that I worked. The owner accomplished this by choosing to use index cards with handwritten hours in leu of a time clock.
There were no breaks given to the staff, even after eight hour shifts. I would get up early in the morning, sometimes at midnight to come in and start mixing dough, and would remain on my feet for long shifts, sometimes twelve hours on the weekend with no lunch break. Working long shifts does not scare me, or even bother me, but what does is not having my rights as an employee respected.
When I worked here I didn't realize the extent to which my rights as a worker were violated, and when I realized that the owner was breaking the law by not paying me time and a half for overtime, I quickly left.
Let it be known that i was not fired, I left of my own accord, and I stand on my word that everything ive said here is true. So, if you're looking for a job in guthrie, I suggest that you avoid...
