The doghouse is one of my favorite spots to eat near my house, I go there fairly often. I love the food, prices, and have only had great service experiences until today. Today I placed a pickup order on DoorDash storefront, which is my traditional route when ordering pickup from this establishment. I have never incountered any issues in the multiple times I have placed orders from here. My order was placed at 4:49 PM. When ordering milkshakes on DoorDash storefront it gives you directions to call the restaurant to pick a milkshake flavor. After I place my order and it goes through (order placed at 4:49PM) I follow the directions given and proceed to dial the number to the restaurant at 4:52 PM. (3 minutes after ordering) A woman by the name of abbey/addey (the woman with dark shoulder length hair and red tips) answers the phone. I greet her politely and tell her I’m calling to pick the flavor of milkshake for the pickup order I had just placed. I am met with her telling me she has already started a vanilla default milkshake so she cannot change it since it would be a waste of a milkshake. I’m trying to reason with her so I can make my preferred selection and she begins to get very condescending and sarcastic sounding over the phone. She proceeded to give me false information saying DoorDash storefront has a special requests text box to specify what flavor. I understand some of their supported ordering platforms may be like this but when I get to the store I veirify with her this is entirely false. She then proceeds to agree is was unfair to me but it’s still a waste of milshake so she couldn’t aid me any further. She then proceeded to try to tell me false information for a second time stating I called to late after I placed my order. I then pull up the phone records and order time to authenticate what she was saying was inaccurate. I am the least confrontational person even but I felt like this was entirely unfair to me. She was exuding negative energy throughout the entire interaction and was extremely unprofessional. After a certain point I imply a refund and she finally agrees to make me the shake I wanted since the beginning. During this she is obviously annoyed the entire time. When walking back into the kithen I assume to get milk she starts blantely complaining about me to the cooks present even after realizing she was at fault…. When leaving she hands me my order and tells me to have a good day in the most monotone insincere voice you could imagine while looking directly over me. I end up leaving with a soupy watered down shake and 5/5 food. I decided to just take the loss considering I didn’t see a resolution coming from discussing anything with her further. I love eating here but I honestly don’t feel comfortable going in and being met by her again. Very demeaning and unprofessional, I felt very...
Read moreI really try to support small businesses. Until recently, I have been very pleased with the food, quality, and price of The Dog House. That changed today.
I went inside to order 3 hot dogs and 2 orders of fries to-go. When I heard the total of $33, I was shocked. In the past I have spent about $20-25. I understand with the rising costs of food, restaurants may have to increase their prices. I paid. When I checked the receipt I was surprised to see waffle fries. I don’t know if this is new, but I liked the old fries. I also noted that the new fries were more expensive. Then I saw the “to go fee” of over $5. That is a very high fee to get my food to go. I have never heard of such a fee.
I looked around while I waited over 20 minutes for my food and saw a small, handwritten sign denoting the new fee. Half of the fee goes to the server, so I am being forced to tip (which in the past, I would voluntarily tip whoever boxed up my food), but I resent being forced to tip. I am unsure of the legality of this as well, of a forced tip.
Once the food was done, it sat on the counter for another five minutes while the cashier was on the phone taking an order. Another customer’s food was also done before ours, and therefore, waited longer on the counter. No apologies were given to that customer or me for the wait.
When I finally got home and tasted the food, the hot dogs were good. But the fries were terrible. They were tough and difficult to chew.
I will be avoiding this once favorite establishment until the to-go fee is discontinued. For $33, I could have had a steak somewhere. I thought The Dog House was a good fit for the neighborhood—but it seems that most folks will be priced out of...
Read moreI have no idea how anything was other than service because they were cleaning and were “closed” 1.5 hours before close (I guess, sign on door says “8 OR 9” so whatever that means) and weren’t able to serve us. Mind you, this was after we looked for parking for 30 minutes. Awful business. You won’t be here for long if that is how your business treats paying customers.
Thank you for responding to my review. I had no idea that people called ahead to make sure restaurants were open when their hours online clearly stated that they were open. From now on , I will call every single restaurant that I go to and ask if they are open after I look online and their hours posted state that they are indeed open. We live 2 hours away and traveled to your area for family and picked your restaurant out of all of the other restaurants. The reviews were great and the menu was different. I am certainly not a business owner and I’m just using my God given common sense here, but if people are never really sure if you’re open, instead of taking that extra step to call, they will more than likely pick somewhere else to go. Again, not a business owner but if it were me I’d cut staff instead of closing the entire place down. I apologize for the negative review. I would think a business owner would want to know the positives and the negatives because how else do we grow, right? I wish you the best of luck. Your menu looks fantastic and I’m still really bummed I didn’t get to try those...
