We stopped here on the way through, while driving up the coast. It had the highest rating on Google so that's why we chose it. The food was okay and that's why I am giving them 2 vs 1 star. The service was the the worst part. The restaurant is small with only 6-7 tables and a small bar for seating. With 4 tables and one person at the bar, it took more then 10 minutes for a waitress to address us and get drinks. Ordered 30 minutes into the experience. Start to finish was 2 hours because it took that long to get our 3 miso soups, 1 appetizer, 3 rolls and mochi for dessert. Our table was not cleared after several stops by our waitress. They have a unique decor but very impractical. The tables are an uneven really hard to eat on. The seats do not lineup with the table and have strange shaping, making it hard to sit square to your good that is balancing on the uneven table. Finally, they apologized for taking so long but didn't not offer a service recovery and charged us for an extra item. Very unorganized staff from the waitress...
Read moreThe decor and seating is awkward and uncomfortable and somewhat bizarre. Our tea was greasy. My bento box lunch was the saddest thing I've ever seen. My miso was fine, but to be honest tasted just like the one I make from powder in my kitchen. The salad was an insipid mixed green doused in soy sauce (what?!). The cucumber pickle was fair but unevenly cut. The california roll was solidly good. The teriyaki chicken was terrible -- rubbery boiled chicken breast with a line of bitter sauce poured over. What?! The tempura shrimp was edible but not hot and a bit floppy. The rice was dry. The green tea ice cream (advertised as part of the bento lunch special) was not available. The overall look of the box was unappealing. (See photo.) My companion's sushi was good in taste but appeared unevenly cut. If we were to return, I would sit at the bar (for slightly more comfortable seats) and order from the sushi menu...
Read moreI went to sushi main street today- tuesday at 12:30pm. Probably 4 total tables full and 1 waitress. It took 10 minutes for waitress to arrive, another 20 minutes for Miso Soup and then 10 minutes later each roll was delivered individually to the table 5 minutes apart. (I have never had auch odd, slow service in any sushi restaurant) I have had sushi hundreds of times since it is my absolute favorite. I was taught about sushi in the bay area, so I know sushi pretty well. I wish i had followed my instinct--- the trendier the restaurant looks the more expensive and blaise the sushi will be. Needless to say- 4 dissapoonting rolls and 2 bowls of average miso came to $63. What a rip off. Save your money and eat at the San Benito house next door and at least you will have an excellent sandwich at...
