What a gem! I just moved to CT from NYC and after a long day of work, I was lucky that I found Sapori d’Italia. My father is 2nd generation Italian-American from Little Italy, Manhattan and he would have felt right at home if he had stepped in with me. I met Antonio, the son of the owner and manager of the family business. The customer service was phenomenal and I could tell Antonio was smiling behind his mask as he served an elderly patron. The young lady behind the counter did a great job of taking orders and ensuring that all customers were greeted and taken care of. I ordered the Michelangelo Steak Sandwich, Crab Meat Stuffed Shells, Broccoli Rabe & Sausage, Caramel Brownie, and Sfogliatella. Everything was cooked on the premises and was absolutely delicious! True to its namesake, this quaint place has authentic Italian flavor, vero sapore Italiano. Bravo Antonio! I look forward to visiting again, and when I’m in West Haven, I’ll visit your other location: Michelangelo Pizza and Subs. Thank you for your service and for bringing quality Italian food to CT....
Read moreI'm a self-proclaimed pizza snob, and I personally think this is the best pizza in Hamden, as far as I've had. They've recently renovated after a fire, and the new updates are beautiful. They have all kinds of delicious looking Italian and other pastries, yummy cookies the size of your face, and other Italian grocery items and specialties. This is a "can't miss" restaurant, you won't be sorry.
Edited 8/19/24- I've been advised to be on a soft diet right now. Since I have zero self control when it comes to Sapori pizza, I got a baked ziti dinner instead. Often, baked ziti from a restaurant or catered doesn't have much flavor. Not the case here! I didn't think it would be, but I also didn't expect at least three meals worth of the best ziti I've ever had in the container. The two young people who work early Sunday afternoon are awesome. The place gets busy and they're never slacking. I'm so happy that I'm within 10 minutes of remarkable Italian food and customer service. You guys...
Read moreSapori is an old school Italian deli. It is the kind of mom and pop store that is becoming rare these days. Everything about this place is wonderful. The pizza is great, not quite up to Pepe's and Sally's but right there in the second tier of New Haven Pizza. They have all kinds of prepared foods, wonderful Italian dishes, some of which I have no idea what they are. This is Italian food made by old school Italian cooks. They have cheeses and cold cuts and many different kinds of breads. They make their own tomato sauce and marinara sauce. They have a whole counter of Italian pastries. They do wonderful catering, with big silver pans of delicious Italian food. The people run it are the nicest people in the world. Honestly, this is the kind of place we all should be going to, to help keep Mom and Pop stores...
