The Cellar on Treadwell — Restaurant in Hamden

Decided to pop in here Because there was a show next door, but was hungry from the travel. Decided to Get something to eat here at this somewhat new business. Walked down the stairs and sat at the bar, Wasn't too busy there was a band playing. I was just really hungry and my main focus was food... But when we approached the bar the bar was not clean and there were dirty drink glasses that sat there the whole time of our visit right next to me. I ordered the Tavern Burger... Supposed to come with cheese bacon Is mushrooms, caramelized onions.. Is and garlic aoli. I ordered my Burger medium which you would think that it would be hard to have a dry Burger cooked at medium , but it was . One thing I cannot stand more than anything is onions especially if they are raw.... The onions on my Burger were not caramelized ( I love carmalized onions!),they were maybe thrown on the grill for 30 seconds to soften them.Didnt even see one mushroom. The bacon was not even an appetizing looking piece of bacon it was an overcooked piece that was in a ball.... It was not visually good looking, I definitely removed my Burger from the bun after one bite, As the flavor of an uncooked onion or a lightly grilled onion is way different than caramelized.....gross.The bun was unappetizing as well so I removed the Burger from the inside,Had these tater tots on the side that tried to sound fancy with truffle oil & Parmeasean....the food was seriously the worst bar food I've ever had And it's overpriced ....$14....for a frozen Burger.. I don't usually write reviews on bar food.... But if the restaurant,mainly consists of burgers ... And the Burger that I was served really wouldn't have been appetizing if the fact was I wasn't starving . I am also writing review because I told the owner politely then he ran to the kitchen to question his staff ... As he could tell I was pretty dissatisfied... Didn't even offer if they could make another Burger with caramelized onions... Or if I would like a drink on the house, although I don't drink alcohol.. What I'm saying is I never even got something offered to me an apology or trying to make the food correctly. The owner ran to his kitchen staff confronted them ran back out of the kitchen and and there was nothing said to me to correct the problem after that . Weird. Just went back to doing other things and left me hanging without a conclusion.Unfortunately I do not recommend this place and if you are going to a show next door do not stop here as you will definitely be dissatisfied if you're looking forward to a good Burger.... At the end of the bill the owner did take 10% off as he clearly did l see left.70% of my food on my plate. I would have been content if he tried to offer something else to me or even say something to me after he spoke to his kitchen staff but to me it's like he did not want to adress the issue., customers are what makes a business.... Next time I go back for a show next door I will definitely not stop and enjoy my night at this spot next door.. Or recommend to anybody to go and waste...

We were just grabbing beers and a pretzel before watching Mystic Dead across The Cellar, the bartender tried but the kitchen sent not one but two, frozen solid pretzels 🥨 to us, like we quietly tried to advise that the pretzel almost took my front tooth out, and they sent the second one out worse and 20 minutes later, no apology, no refund the server took her tip before we even got our drinks and the bartender dude was literally doing all the work, it was a mess. Feel bad for the guy he made an awesome Grateful Dead but I asked for a shooter so another waste, I tried many times, this was the last time ever for me ordering food there, music was cool, bartender was a pro but Nothing can make up for 2 frozen pretzels 🥨 I felt embarrassed for them, how awful, that so many kickass venues go there and there isn’t...

Took my wife there for her birthday, because I saw the high reviews on the food. We are in our 60’s and heard the band warming up as we sat down. It was a heavy metal band which neither of us had really listened to. We weren’t going to stay. The male bartender came over and smiled and handed us both earplugs to muffle it a bit. We ordered our food and started listening to the band and I’m telling you they were amazing! All of them, especially the female singer and lead guitarist. We were both impressed. The staff were very nice to us and the food was top shelf. We had a few drinks, laughed and had one of the best times we have had in years!!! My wife had a great birthday and I thank you guys at the bar!!!...
