I ordered the Brisket Philly Sandwich Combo, with Chicken and Dumplings, North Carolina BBQ, Collards, Baked Beans, and a side of Sweet Potato Fries. Here’s how it all stacked up: • North Carolina BBQ: 10/10 – Excellent! • Baked Beans: 6/10 – Decent, but could use a little more flavor. (Spicy) • Collards: 3/10 – Not seasoned at all. Very bland. • Chicken and Dumplings: 8/10 – Very tasty, but please ease up on the black pepper.(Spicy) • Brisket: 1/10 – I gave it to my husband (and he’s not picky), but even he threw it in the trash. ( He said it didn’t look good) I told him we paid too much for that to just toss it; we could’ve at least given it to someone in need. • Sweet Potato Fries: 7/10 – Solid. • Hushpuppies: 10/10 – Perfect!
They also forgot to include my side of coleslaw, but I called the next morning and was told they’d give it to me next time I come in. I appreciated that.
I do plan to return because I forgot to try the smoked wings, which I’ve heard are good.
Now for the biggest downside: there was no air conditioning, and it was 95 degrees outside. We had planned to dine in, but it was way too hot to enjoy the food there. Honestly, I feel the restaurant should’ve been temporarily closed or had something in place to address that situation. Huge kudos to the staff working under those conditions — I know I wouldn’t want to.
While I was there, I overheard kids asking about the Free Kids Meal. I asked and was told (I think by the owner) that kids eat free on Tuesdays from 4–7 PM, dine-in only. Since there was no AC and we couldn’t stay to dine in, I asked if they could still honor the free kids meal for takeout. I was told no, with the response: “You see what we’re going through.”
I understand, but the customer shouldn’t be penalized for the restaurant’s internal issues. It would’ve been a kind gesture to make an exception considering the uncomfortable conditions.
Also, I think the prices are too high for the quality and experience — nearly $50 for two meals, with very small side portions and multiple issues, just felt like too much.
Will I return? Yes, to try the wings. Do I recommend? Yes — but only once the AC is fixed, and be mindful of...
Read more1st experience was when they catered my union cookout. I was trying to save room for a later BBQ I was attending but wanted to try something, got a burger from them. I was so impressed that I've talked about that burger a number of time but still had yet to visit the establishment, until today, 9/17/22, about 1630. The young woman behind the counter was extremely sweet, huge smile and very helpful after telling her it was my 1st time. I was buying for 2 of us that had never visited. Smoked teriyaki wings, half rack of ribs and a triple B burger. 1st, the burger... ahmazing. So many different flavors popping out. Wings... phenomenal. Very tasty sauce and quality wings. The ribs were incredible. Everything was cooked just right. Not overdone, not undercooked. Goldilocks zone. Rib meat came right off the bone perfectly and the wings as well. I'm hooked. Only thing i feel like would change is the green beans, which were definitely good but seemed to lack some flavor, like maybe bacon pieces or pepper, i dont know im no pro cook but they were still cooked well and I ate them all so there's that. I love smoked flavor, i prefer very smokey but it wasn't overpowering or underwhelming. It's kind of out of my way with its location but they've gained a repeat customer and I'll make the 40 min round trip with a big smile and a watering mouth. Thanks guys, I hope you open a location closer to downtown Hampton in the future. I'd never...
Read moreOMG!!!! The BEST BBQ in Hampton Roads area and Hampton. This was our first time. I wanted some good BBQ. Googled best BBQ restaurant in Hampton, VA. Bubba and Franks was close by and the reviews and pictures were great. Let me tell you, it is everything over the top good!!! I had the pulled pork minced bbq Carolina sandwich combo. Cole slaw to go on top. Then I got bbq beans (1 side) with a drink for the combo. Absolutely delicious!! Sandwich stuffed full of meat, I barely was able to finish all. My huband had the bbq nachos. HUGE amount of food. He couldn't finish it, which is rare. He had the corn on the cob and drink for the combo. Huge selection of food on the menu, and plenty of sides. Dessert is banans pudding, sweet potato pie or cheesecake. Everything is bbq' and homemade on site. Shawn, manager of son Bubba, was very nice and helpful. Answered all of our questions. Shawn is son of Bubba whose vision was to have a restaurant like this. Bubba started the restaurant with Frank Met Sandy when we went back to order our desserts. She was equally very nice and helpful. They also do catering. You can also order to pick up and go. We absolutely will be...
