I’m going to be brutally honest, I’m so disgusted and so hurt. This was hands down one of my favorite spots and I semi blame myself for not paying better attention. Please brace yourself for what I am about to say, I have been a very very loyal customer for over 5 years(eating here 1-2 times a week!!!!), I have offered my opinion, I even offered to help, because I did not want to write this review and I’m saddened that I no longer feel safe enough to eat here with my family. First and foremost the beyond unhygienic atmosphere, it constantly reeks of urine in the back, the bathrooms smell horrid, never cleaned, ever, never gave toilet paper, never have soap, or paper towel, now keeping that in mind, this was the last straw for me, on the other side of the register there is a sink, that is where they rinse the dirty dishes, notice I said rinse and not wash, yes they do not wash the dishes or silver in a proper sink, with soap nothing, they run there fingers across the plate to get noticeable left on food, I’ve witnessed this myself, I even said something to the server, like wth are you doing? I flat out asked, if I came behind the door and looked around your kitchen I wouldn’t want to eat here anymore would I……. He just stared at me. 5 years!!!! 1-2 times a week!!!! I walk in they know my order! To realize that meat is old and spoiled, that there is rotted food in the coolers and if you go to get a drink yourself the smell of decomposing meat is so rancid it will turn your stomach. The last time we went I noticed the dish rinsing, our chicken was grey had a weird taste and smell (unfortunately not the first or only time) the rice was cold and as an avid cooker I knew it had been sitting long it was stuck together in big bunches, it was dry, it was very unpleasant, I also checked out the desert fridge and the first desert I came upon had huge hairy mold growing on it I gave it to the gentleman at the counter thanked them for their service and I will most likely never be back. There are bugs everywhere, the seating is horrid booths are torn up, tables are warped from heat, the smell is bad, very unclean. I even talked to the owner and offered my help he said he had someone, clearly you didn’t see the family coming in spending $40 twice a week for 5 years, your floors are greasy, I slipped and didn’t say anything. I truly cannot believe the health department hasn’t shut them down hopefully soon someone will until they can get...
Read moreDuring our recent weekend trip to Detroit, we decided to dine at Yemen Cafe immediately upon our arrival from Canada, and I must say, it turned out to be a highlight of our journey. From the moment we stepped through the door, the experience was delightful.
As we entered, the staff greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality that instantly made us feel at home. Their courteous demeanour set a positive tone for the evening. The restaurant's interior was beautifully decorated, featuring traditional Middle Eastern elements that created a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The soft lighting and comfortable seating added to the overall charm, making it a perfect place to unwind after our travels.
For our meal, we opted for the BBQ family platter designed for four, which did not disappoint. The array of dishes was beautifully presented, and every bite was a tantalizing experience. The kebobs, in particular, were a standout feature of the platter—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour that lingered pleasantly on the palate. It was evident that they were expertly marinated and cooked to perfection. Accompanying the kebobs was some freshly baked bread with a delightful crispy texture that complemented the meats wonderfully.
We also decided to try a bowl of soup, which was a fantastic addition to our meal. It was perfectly spiced, providing a warm and comforting sensation that was just right for the evening. A lovely surprise was the complimentary tea they offered after our meal. It was a nice touch that added to the overall experience, as it allowed us to relax and reflect on the delicious food we had just savoured.
However, I must mention one minor disappointment—the chicken on the platter. Unfortunately, it was a bit dry and tough, which stood in stark contrast to the other items that were so fresh and flavorful. This aspect slightly marred an otherwise excellent meal and prevented me from awarding five stars.
In conclusion, our experience at Yemen Cafe was overwhelmingly positive. Despite the hiccup with the chicken, the overall quality of the food, coupled with the exceptional hospitality, made for a delightful evening. I highly recommend Yemen Cafe to anyone seeking flavorful Middle Eastern cuisine paired with a warm and welcoming...
Read moreI wouldn’t want to review at all but I want others to know. This is not a restaurant for everyone, if you wanna try this cuisine try to go somewhere else. Food doesn’t taste great and not worth the money.
First I will start the service, we are two people went for dinner last night and when we walkedin there is no one to get us a table, we found a table and waited 15 mins for someone to attend to us. There are 15 tables on the side of restaurant we sat and there is only one person to serve all 15 tables. Finally the guy came to take order- he didn’t ask if we want to drink anything, for the record we weren’t offered water at all throughout dinner. I asked some questions in the menu since it’s my first time . He doesn’t seem like wanna explain anything and barely stood there to talk with us. We digged through the menu and ordered. After 45 mins we got our half order, he forgot some items we ordered. I got hold of him after 15mins and asked about rest of the order and he said i forgot and brought the soup that comes with my order and bread we ordered.
Second thing I found hair in my lamb and rice plate. Not just one, 3 or 4. I left my food. And asked about it He refunded for that order from rest of the bill. We couldn’t eat rest of the food after this.
Finally i want to say that From the moment we walked in there we felt we are not welcomed. All the time we were there it’s like they don’t want us there. I am feeling sad to tell this but We were treated differently. My friend doesn’t wanna be there anymore and we left.
UNSANITARY FOOD, WORST SERVICE ARE ONE THING, TREATING PEOPLE DIFFERENTLY IS WHOLE...
