Played a song on the jukebox here. The song was "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Some guy came over and turned off the juke after about 45 seconds. I went up to him and asked why he did it. He got confrontational and said "You're really gonna ask me why I'm doing something?". I said "Yes I'm wondering why." He immediately got up from his chair and punched me in the face. I was obviously shook and wondering why somebody would do that.
I went and cashed out my tab and the bartender said "We asked him to turn off the song." So I said "Why would you do that?" She said "We didn't like the song." I said " Well why is the song on your jukebox then?" She had nothing to say and have back a blank stare. I said " So you're condoning violence then?" She said "Well you can have the money back for the song." I said "You want me to pay a tab when you just condoned a customer punching me?" She said " Okay fine here's $10." And they threw ten dollars down on the bar. So I walked outside into the parking lot and called the police. After I called the police, I saw the man leave the bar through the back door and get on bicycle and ride away.
Obviously not going to come back here ever, and I will make sure to spread the word about this.It would be one thing if an irate patron at a bar wanted to start a fight. It happens sometimes in bars. But, for a bartender to totally condone it and more or less support it? That's unacceptable.
Just so you know the bartender was: it was a female probably in her 30s, she had black framed glasses on, and she was wearing a black shirt that said something like "Something's going on" in white font.
EDIT: I was told the bartender I'm referring to was the owner. The owner condones and...
Read moreThis place was recommended by a friend of mine as a laid back, non judgmental place that welcomed everyone. My now fiancé and myself were flying blind but trusting the reference from my friend, we found exactly what we asked for-a place for everyone to be themselves with no issue. We made our way across Detroit to find this gem of a bar on a Saturday evening to find it packed with a diverse crowd of people that were extremely accommodating to us and an attentive bar staff (Andrea and Shane to be exact) that were very down to earth and kind to us. After hearing that we were from Nashville Tennessee, not only the diverse crowd at the bar but the bar staff and even the owners were very engaging with us and treated us as regulars! After that, we have become personal friends with the bar staff and have become regulars as this bar is a reason we keep returning to the Detroit area. I love this place because no matter who’s around when we show up, the whole bar is accommodating and feels like we have a posse when we walk thru the door. This place should...
Read moreIf you seek a pleasant dive bar in Hamtramck with plenty of character, look no further than The Painted Lady. Excellent whisky/beer selection. Four classic pinball machines. Pool table. Stage for the occasional band. And the best damn bartenders in town. Already described as a tavern in a 1911 deed, it's probably one of the longest continually running dives in Hamtramck, under various names. Comfortable seating at the large antique bar, and a juke box that ranges from Iggy Pop to Billie Holiday to a bit of everything in between. I just drink an NA beer and water nowadays, but I really come for the conversations, which never disappoint. Denizens? Yes. Ashtrays? Plenty. Hipsters/flipsters/kids just struggling to make it with art or music or working nine to five for the Man or have just told the Man to take a flying leap so's they can join a band? You betcha. That's why this 62-year-old...
