When I can afford a cup of quality caffeinated beverage, I go to the sole source for a coffee shop environment in dowtown Hannibal, Missouri. The good news is that the coffee is always hot unless you prefer yours over ice. In that case, the iced tea is tasty and sensibly sweetened, and the cold brew is top notch and top dollar. If you order it plain, you can save around 70¢, but let's keep that between us. I've ate an acceptable sandwich that I only wished was bigger, a cinnamon muffin that hit the spot, a hummus wrap that was good but needed a better greens to everything-else ratio, and I've drank enough coffee here to send the average human into cardiac arrest. All-in-all, it's alright. I wonder how business would be if they had competition. Their WiFi is finicky, and probably because they have an extra portal page that makes you give an email address to connect. Having an option to receive offers via email would be wise rather than soft blackmail. Most of the workers smile, but have a tough time being genuinely friendly until you talk them into it. I'm usually quite charming, I assure you. You can't miss the building because its rainbow-esque paint job with cute coffee-themed designs and color fade effect will answer the mystery as to whatever happened to Punky Brewster. Thank goodness they also sell ice cream and tourist-loved merchandise to make sense of the color choices. The local art on the inside is worth a look and the random plethora of seating is probably worth a sit, but my favorite part is the locals and the random rural Midwestern visitors. If you're anything like me, which can theoretically happen, you'll get some smiles and greetings daily. Quite a few of them secretly hoard some wisdom, and are surprisingly tolerant of hippies.
If you like my review, give me a job. I am skilled at the art of enjoying the finer things while criticizing them, and so I'm your Huckleberry if you need a hand at raising the bar.

Read moreWe go here daily out of convenience because it is the only coffee that is not out of the way. The coffee is okay. Sometimes the frozen coffees taste powdery or gritty. The pastries are decent. Their variety isn't what it once was. They offer vegan and gluten free options, but I've always found those bland in taste. They took away a lot of their comfortable seating. It is one of the 3 best coffee places in town with MiMis being on top.
I'd suggest lunch more than breakfast hours.
Every now and then, they have live music outside in the form of a pianist and drummer.
They are right in the middle of the historic district of town. This makes parking fun to find. It can also mean they are extremely busy during certain seasons and festivals.
If they set their seating back up with wifi, they make an easy to find common ground to meet with clients for business.
The best part of the place is shopping through their gag gift section. I never buy anything because the price is out of this world, but I do get a few laughs. It's like memes you can hold in your hand.
Update: I do love the staff at Java Jive. They are quirky and fun. I don't often order a specific drink, I just have them surprise me. They like to laugh and joke. They are good at remembering names and details about people. They will also remember your order if you are a frequent flyer.
They offer teas and lotus drinks as well. They also have ice cream. They can help you stay on a healthy track, or They can give you a complete sugar rush. I'm changing my rating to 5 stars simply because I enjoy the eclectic and...
Read moreThis cafe is an absolute gem. I have traveled to Hannibal, MO quite frequently for work. Every time I come to this town, I stay at the The Travelers Rooming House, right next door to Java Jive, and go to the cafe every day! The baked goods are always fresh and yummy. The breakfast sandwiches and sandwiches in general are delicious and BIG. I love the salads - especially in this area where good, fresh salads are very rare. The drip coffee is so-so - not my favorite, but it doesn't warrant one less star because I get espresso drinks instead which are great!
The gift shop in the cafe is one of the best. I always leave my work trips with items from the shop to give as gifts or keep for myself - like a beautiful pie plate that I use frequently!
IMO - the best restaurant in Hannibal. Consistent, delicious, fresh, with a wonderful gift shop! What's...
