Javier's Authentic Mexican Food — Restaurant in Harrisville

If there were 4.5 star rating that is what I would choose.

I'm pretty heavy on the Mexican restaurant scene. The .5 mark down is because this food is unique in a way that might just be hard for me to acclimate in the first visit.

Two examples. I asked the waitress if they were out of regular mexican rice because they were serving white rice. She kindly replied, "The rice is yellow." Not until my leftovers the next day did I start to feel that the rice had some flavor and was fine.

The same happened as I was eating my shredded beef taco. I had a mouthful of fresh, properly textured beef and actually removed that from my mouth to better understand the flavor profile.

What I'm saying is come here with an open mind that you're not going to have what you are accustomed. Mind you I have dined here once, on New Year's Eve. Would I return? 4.5 stars I would try again.

There is a lot right here. I perused the menu for probably 15 minutes before deciding. The waitress checked with me three times until I asked that she wait for me until my menu is closed as signal I am ready.

I placed a phone call before coming they ensured open until 8:30. When I arrived the front door said 9 which is perfect for a restaurant that really wants to close not seat until 9 p.m..

On that call I asked what was popular: fajitas, skirt steak and Javier's Special. She described the Javier's special and I could not find anywhere on the menu. That sounded best and when I told my waitress the items that were in special she said she would check. Returned with a table placard showing days of the week and what was on special. (My guess is removed due to covid. I was very pleased because my interest was set on that from the description in the phone call.

They have a regular and a hotter salsa they serve with their chips. I recommend both the hot can stand alone...not too hot.

The people working here had a big influence. I did not care for their guacamole too salty. Tried a tiny taste because the appearance was off and returned. No problem prompt removal.

I did not ask for a another salsa but that was offered. Nice. Yum.

I have friends who recommended coming here. Another reason I will try again.

They had great physical distancing at their marked off tables. Restaurant arranged so there are distinct dining areas. Only myself and a family group of 5 in our space.

When I went to pay my waitress said my dinner had been covered. I inquired if by employee or customer. She walked over to the table the family had been sitting... but long ago left. Looking back there were positive friendly tones and talk between them and the waitresses as they were leaving.

I left my waitress a 30% tip on my table that would have been what I would have given her had I paid my own bill. She acted very pleased.

Leaving, my heart was full. Had the family gifted me $50 that would not have meant more than buying my $9 special meal (plus tip?) they did. Super touching to be alone, noticed and cared for with no words spoken. Thank you, hope they get to read...

Arrived seated right away, chips salsa,then four glasses water. 5 minutes later 4 water arrived , party of 2 seated in booth across from us, given menus, received our menus, party of 5 seated large booth, party of 2 order taken, still waiting , finally I turn from table ask if we can have a waitress, told just a minute, party of 5 receive chip and salsa, party of two served their dinner, finally our party order taken, party of two receive bill tabel cleaned up, our order served yea, party of 5 gets up with children leaves order never taken, I look to left see tabel of four in corner area, get up and also leave, see chip and salsa on table with menu, their order also never taken, then waitress said were did they go??? .never asked if need more water can we clear plates, not asked if wanted anything else hear you bill, meet friends coming in as leaving said beef waiting 10 minutes to get seated. Empty tabels their wondering why, told them our experience. Wished them luck, seen them getting in their car as we were pulling out. Mabey just a bad night at the restaurant, because they had plenty of...

I love Javier's! They have the best food around. However, after my latest visit I don't think I'll be going back. I tried there online order to pick up. I ordered food that equaled out to an amount of $66 and some change. When I got to Javier's they only had half my order. When I explained this to the employee they told me they don't do certain things online. I was fine with that, so I ordered the missing food. They made me pay for that extra order and still charged me the full price for my online order. So now I've been billed and paid for two items twice when I only got the items once. I tried to explain this and the worker to me they only charged me for half the $66 and change. But as you can see from my bank statement they charged me the while amount along with an amount of $24 and change. Extremely unhappy with my service and for this probably will never go back to...
