We've eaten at this establishment twice, both for birthday celebrations. Our first experience was lovely, and when it came time to celebrate the next occasion, we happily made a reservation. I'm not quite sure what happened in the last 3 months since we first ate here, but tonight was kind of a disaster. We had cocktails and charcuterie, which went fine (charcuterie board could use more cheese!) and then placed dinner orders. Soup came out almost immediately but then we waited close to an hour for our mains. When they did finally come out, we only got 2 out of 3 plates. Not wanting to be rude by eating in front of someone without a plate of their own, we had to wait some more. Unfortunately, aside from our child's pizza, things came out very cold and very over cooked with proteins being pretty inedible.
We didn't realize when we made our reservation that it was Hootenanny night so it was very loud and difficult to hear. Kind of had to yell to be heard across the table from each other. We seemed to be on a struggle bus with service too. Dishes didn't get cleared, Waters didn't get refilled, took a few requests to get a box for our daughter's pizza, etc. just not attentive.
If our experience tonight was the first introduction we had, we wouldn't return. That being said, we know what they're capable of producing and hope that tonight was a one-off exception to the norm. I quite seriously thought about stopping at Kwik Trip on our way home because I left the restaurant hungry tonight which was a large departure from our first visit. If gas station food sounds better than what was served at a fine dining establishment, there's certainly room for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst, the drinks and service were excellent. It was busy so I get that things can be slow. The bartenders make a great cocktail, and this would be a great place for a night cap or a drink before dinner. This is not a place you should eat dinner. For dinner, go to one of the bars down the road, or skip it all together.
For an appetizer, the charcuterie board was interesting. While I have no complaint about the food on the board, it was mainly comprised of meat. Letās call it meat forward. By that I mean, there was barely any cheese and the cheeses laying on the board were all hard cheeses, no soft lovely cheeses. This forces the user to slice off tiny chucks and in a feeble attempt to savor what little cheese is there. Adjust the meat and cheese ratio.
For dinner, I ordered the Walleye. It was poorly prepared, overcooked, and under seasoned. Something you might expect at Applebeeās. It was floppy, flavorless, and sponge like, instead of flaky, savory, and flavorful like it should be, especially at $30. Now, I know $30 is not much, but Iāve had much better fish at my local bar on walleye night.
As for the sides, the rice obviously came from a microwavable pouch or was made several days ago reheated again and again. It had no flavor and the texture of tiny gummy bears. Rice is not hard, make it fresh. Same goes for the veggies, they had the most flavor but were at best overcooked and at worst cooked three days ago and reheated.
I had a fine time there, people were friendly, and the service was competent, however, the back of house needs some help or some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow. Great place. Everything was amazing. Great view of the Mississippi River and also of the Hastings Bridge.
I do want to say I'm grading the food experience for their breakfast, but believe me, I'll be coming back to try their dinner menu.
Their breakfast menu is perfect. Not too many choices and not enough. It's Goldilocks (just right).
Now I've had Chicken and Waffles in parts of the country where they pride themselves on just dish.
I cannot say enough Great things about their Chicken and Waffles. First, I'm not a huge fan of waffles in general. I feel like waffles are just to soak up delicious, warm syrup. Not here. Nope. I'm not sure what they do differently, but their waffles are superb, decadent and fluffy. I still can't get over how delicious that was. No joke, my mouth is watering as I'm writing this. The chicken, albeit had a crispy and crunchy crust, it was so moist I was able to cut the chicken with just my fork. The chicken was piping hot, I was getting frustrated because I had to let it cool and I just wanted to eat. But the chicken with the super flavourful Waffle and spicy syrup... OH MY GOSH! I couldn't stop raving about it. You have to try their Chicken and Waffles.
Our server was perfect. She was attentive but didn't hover. She was friendly but wasn't sharing her life story. Simply put, she was professional.
If you're a "foodie" and enjoy trying new places out... here you go.
I hope this...
