First time eating here today. Got a roast beef poboy, shrimp poboy, gumbo and a catfish plate.
The bread 100% makes a poboy. You cant have a poboy on just some random bun or bread. It has to be the RIGHT kind of bread else it doesn't work. Its just a sandwich at that point. Triangle definitely uses the right bread. The roast beef poboy was just the right amount of sloppy without being soggy. Thats a fine line to walk and they nailed it. The shrimp on the shrimp poboy were a good size. I've had bigger shrimp on poboys, and that's always nice, but these shrimp were perfectly okay.
The gumbo had a great flavor. Shrimp and sausage. I prefer mine with less rice, and I didn't know they put rice in the gumbo, but it was a great flavor. I'd definitely ask if they could do rice on the side the next time so I could mix mine how I like.
The catfish filet plate was good. Fish fried well. The coleslaw was fantastic. It's a very wet mayo slaw and I think it has a hint of mustard with it. It's sweet and really goes well with the fried things on the catfish plate. Definitely one of the better house made slaws in the area.
I also got a bit of crawfish because why not. They were okay. I prefer a lot more heat. It's early in the season and these crawfish were super small. There wasn't a hint of heat to them. I do tend to like things on the spicy side, but there wasn't anything to these crawfish. They didn't peel well and they felt really old. Didn't have any dead ones in the boil, so thats more than I can say for other places in the area with preboiled crawfish. I give the...
Read moreIf you’re looking for quality vs quantity, look farther. Passing through Hattiesburg, MS, this seafood restaurant was recommended by Yelp viewers. The website menu listed a seafood platter that was too good to be true; it was just that. The fish given to me was Swai or basa fish, NOT catfish. There is a $2 up charge for catfish; however, there was no mention of this; therefore, FYI, catfish has to be requested. I assumed that the fish listed on the platter, along with shrimp, oysters, crab cake, soft shell crab, was catfish since no other was indicated. I do not eat oysters. Therefore, extra shrimp were substituted. I discovered that I’d been given Swai only after I began eating and had left. Since the fish was not as expected, I called back and was given the details of catfish vs Swai and told about the up charge. I do not intentionally eat catfish substitutes, swai nor basa, and I know the difference. Also, the shrimp were obviously imported too, they were served with veins, and the stuffed crab cake tasted like leftover Thanksgiving dressing. The soft crab included the inner cavity that was not cleaned out. My $28.59 + tip was a donation because I couldn’t eat most of the food. The coleslaw had a core of cabbage chunk lying on top. The Tatar sauce tasted like mayonnaise with a little relish. However, on a positive note, the staff was courteous; portion generous; the fries were good and the...
Read moreI buy food from triangle all the time but today was different. I ordered a half and half plate with fish and oysters. The plate had 7 oysters and 2 very small strips of fish. I was disappointed 😞😞😞 to say the least. If your serving fish on a seafood plate I think you should give your customers their monies worth. One whole piece of fish or 4 strips. But to give someone two very little pieces of fish was unacceptable. Then the fries was over cooked very hard and so were the just puppies. I expected more because my husband ordered a fish plate and he had like 4 small strips on his plate 4 small strips equals to one whole fillet. On a fish plate you usually get 2 whole pieces of fish and whatever sides you request. I won't be coming back until they give customers what they pay for those plates are pricey and you are getting ripped off with the portions. I know no one will respond or try to make this right between my husband and I we spent over 50 dollars and were very disappointed. I just wanted to...
