Read moreThe food, drinks and atmosphere was very nice. My girlfriend and I came at around 4:15pm on a Sunday and we're immediately ignored by the bit ditzy host. After she was done talking to a few employees about their tax documents we were asked if we wanted bar or table. After struggling to communicate with an obviously native English speaker, we were sat.
Aside from that we had Eli as a server and he was fantastic. He was very attentive and a charismatic gentleman. The food was fantastic. We ordered off the taco check menu and got several to go pieces they were so good. For spicy lovers, this is the place for you. There are many more non-spicy options, but the check list allows you to customize to your desire. My girlfriend hates spicy and chose the right options and loved her tacos. I, on the other hand, dig the spice. I ordered them all spicy, and loved them. Good lord, the *Burnin Thyme drink is SPICY. and sweet. Get it with cayenne sugar on the rim and it will both bake and make that cake for you, Jake. The Marigold was delicious, a reposado and Cointreau base with a lemonade/ strawberry-pear mix backing. Very good pair with the mango habanero salsa. Finally I had the Pink Pomelo, a Blanco tequila base with grapefruit, lime and Demerara & Luxardo Liqueur. It definitely pronounces the flavor of the tequila while still having a bit of a lime and effervescent finish. Overall with the three drinks, Marigold, Burnin Thyme and Pink Pomelo, I'm tied between the Pomelo and the Marigold. It will depend on the pairing. Parking in the garage and walking over was a bit annoying, but it was absolutely worth every bit of cold air. Can't wait to try this place in the...
Read moreIf you are looking for an authentic taco, this is not the place. The location is great and right by the river. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, as well as very helpful. There are a few good craft beers on tap, as well as some bottled domestics.
Now, for the food. Typically, it's "who's going to complain about a taco?" Well, after tasting many of them here, there's a few words that stick out. The soft tortillas came out of a bag, which always taste stale. Cola marinated steak, it was not tender, and tasted like teriyaki, which goes against the idea of using the colas acid to break down the meat. The short rib tasted like there was no seasoning on it, which is unbelievable for a flavorful cut of meat. The portobellos were on the chewy side. The beer braised black beans were as if they took a can of goya beans and rinsed them off with warm tap water, then served it. I can go on, but I think you get the point.
Given this is a chain, I understand, but without the chain, there is no restaurant to review this time. If you have made it this far, there's plenty of other places around to get a taco, spend the $10 for 3 tacos and try those places instead. Two stars for great service and...
