Working most of the day yesterday shifting store furniture/fixtures between our neighbors garage and storage sheds as we wait for our fire marshal inspection, we took a break and ate at Mar’dees Grill restaurant in downtown Havre de Grace. While it is somewhat newer to the downtown merchants district you may be missing out on some FABULOUS food and absolutely wonderful wait staff. It is in the spot where the Vintage cafe use to be, so if you ate at Vintage you already know there isn’t but a very small amount of seating. That aside, and not their fault at all, the food will make you come back again and again (aaaand again!). If it doesn’t, have your taste buds (and head!) examined by a medical professional. I had the oxtail burger on coco bun (sweet bun, not made with cocoa). I have had oxtail before, decades ago while serving at Ft Carson, Colorado. This beats that experience to a pulp! I added cole slaw and greens to my meal. Now let me tell you: I haven’t had such delicious greens outside of my own kitchen in forever, and I know how to make greens!!!! While they were a bit pricey at $6.50 for a rather small container (my only complaint!), you won’t regret eating them. The chef knows what he/she is doing. There were zero complaints from anyone in our group of 5 who had the wings, the hot dogs, the rice and varying burgers. Now, onto the staff: if I ran a restaurant I would pilfer 👏every 👏single employee and double their salary to work for me. That says a LOT because those who know me well know I am a cheap 🫏. They provide service as if they have some skin in the game to see Mar’dees succeed. So refreshing in these times. Parking is premium here in HdG since the sidewalks were widened and 70 some spaces have been eliminated, so the walk to restaurant will make you hungry, which is a good thing for Mar’dees. Maybe get some extra food so when you find your way back to your car after doing some great small business shopping downtown you can fill up again 😂. Now, get your tail in the car and go getcha some oxtail!!! FYI: Elpis Art Studio Artisan Gift Shoppe (our new retail store) will be opening right across the street from them. That said, I already acknowledge I may very well be eating all of...
Read moreI hate to be that person :( I placed a too good to go order in June. I love that app because it allows you to try new restaurants at a cheaper price. And I hate spending my money on food I don’t like. My too good to go order I received three tenders, yams, and Mac. Tenders were good, yams were delicious. Mac wasn’t so good. It looked exactly how it tasted. It wasn’t really cheesy and it was oily and it didn’t have flavor, but that’s OK. I still enjoyed it. I enjoyed it enough to try it again. I placed a pick up order Saturday night, for 4 wings, yams, and collards. I tried a little bit of it Saturday night. Off the bat, my wings smelled like fish. Which means that they cook the fish and chicken in the same grease. I didn’t plan on eating it entirely. Yeah, did not taste the same from last month. Collards were Good after adding my own seasoning, The turkey was loyal tough. The wings were cooked pretty good, but there were still feathers on them. I bypassed the feathers because nobody’s perfect, and it’s common. When I got to it Sunday, which is today, some of the feathers were bigger than others. And my collards had mac & cheese noodles in them? Cross contamination or you gave me somebody’s leftovers. I would love to return, but I’d be a...
Read more🔥 Southern flavor. Local heart. The Grill is the real deal. 🔥
I had the absolute pleasure of getting a sneak peek at The Grill, the newest addition to the Havre de Grace food scene bringing southern cooking and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
First off, the calagreneens, were out of this world! You can tell they were cooked right, with that deep, smoky food flavor and the perfect balance of seasoning. They brought me straight back to Sunday dinners in the South — tender, flavorful, and clearly made with love and pride!
And the chicken wings? All I can say is: These wings are everything you want — crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and served up with real care. Nice size wing, not over-fried, seasoned to perfection!
With their grand opening right around the corner, all I can say is that Havre de Grace just got a serious upgrade. I’m beyond excited to welcome The...
