El Mercadito Rincon Mexicano — Restaurant in Hawaii

Hands down, the best Mexican in Kona. I've been here twice now in the last two weeks and I've been blown away both times. I love the authenticity of everything here. The flavors, the dishes, it's all great. Presentation is 5 star, and was well above what I expected. This place is far better than the little corner they eek out at the Int'l Marketplace. If you are hungry for real authentic Mexican food, this is the only place you need to look. The carne asada tacos were fresh with hot meat, cold lettuce, and a flavor that just melts in your mouth. Also had the chorizo taco, which I thought was going to be too greasy, but ended up being my favorite. My second trip I had the Pozole Verde y Rojo, that was on special. I'm usually one that looks at soup as a starter and not a meal, but this was definitely a meal. The only caveat, is be prepared for flys. This is hands down the best Mexican food on the island. I was a little skeptical because of its location. But, wow. Food was awesome, and salsa was great. I'm from southern California, where good restaurants (especially Mexican) are everywhere , but finding good restaurants on the island is tough. It's in an otherwise abandoned food court. A little difficult to find, even with GPS leading the way, but it is well worth the trip. There are tables to sit at to enjoy your food. If you're like me and love Mexican food, I strongly urge you to try this place. I have been there many times, and never been disappointed. It's definitely five star food but it is not upscale dining. I lived in socal and grew up eating Mexican food. I love it. I have tried many places on the island and they have all been ok. Not bad just not great. I came to this place on a whim and boy was I surprised. I ordered a burrito al pastor and it was amazing. Packed full of flavor, not too greasy, and not to expensive. Since then I have been there 2 more times and both times were amazing. I have the carnitas taco and burrito. The meat was juicy and full of flavor.
