Many thanks again to Kona Freedivers for their assistance, this time with my replacement pole spear. We had an excellentr experience with KFD 4.5 years ago when we took Level 1 Fii course, and with the shop for the duration. I lost my nice JBL 3-piece travel spear at the end of that last journey on BI though, through an clumsy error on my part. Connor was really helpful to me yesterday in the shop getting me the right replacement spear, which had big shoes to fill as I really loved that JBL. But I now love my new Evolve even more! Awesome, and Connor was super helpful with some freediving advice for me as well - thank you Sir! Idaho freedivers, in da house.... just sayin. Mahalo, Dave Jankowsky Island Park, Idaho

I got my Level Freediving certification through Kona Honu Divers and I can’t speak highly enough of them. Everyone at the shop is super kind and helpful and they really make you feel welcome and comfortable. My instructor Micah was amazing. She is one of those people who is born to teach and does so in a way that feels fun and engaging. She’s just fantastic all around. Highly recommend Micah and the shop for all of your diving needs!

Stopped in to the Kona Honu Dive shop and was impressed b the diversity of merch available. This is a full dive shop with fins, masks and gear not to mention the shirts and etched water bottles. I highly suggest a stop at this shop for cool diving gear. Don’t forget to ask for Becca, Jackie, Mari or Bunnie to help you pick out the best gear for you.

I recently completed the Level 1 Freediver training course at Kona Freedivers, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! The course was exceptional, and I owe a large part of my success to my wonderful instructor, Micah.

From the beginning, Micah exuded a high level of professionalism that immediately put me at ease. Her knowledge and passion for freediving were evident, and she genuinely cared about her students' progress. She took the time to address any questions or concerns, making sure everyone felt comfortable and ready for each step of the training.

Micah's guidance and assistance were invaluable throughout the course. Her ability to present complex information in a clear and understandable manner made learning so much easier. Even as a complete beginner to freediving, I felt supported and encouraged by her teaching style, which fostered a positive and encouraging learning environment.

Safety was paramount during the entire course, and Micah was meticulous in ensuring that every participant understood the safety protocols thoroughly. This attention to detail gave me the confidence I needed to push myself and embrace new challenges in the water.

Despite being a novice in the world of freediving, I never felt overwhelmed or left behind. Micah tailored the instruction to meet each individual's needs, ensuring that everyone progressed at their own pace while feeling fully involved in the process.

Completing the Level 1 Freediver course with Kona Freedivers was an incredible experience. I now feel equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue freediving and spearfishing with confidence. If you're looking to embark on your freediving journey, I highly recommend this course and, in particular, Micah as your instructor.

A big mahalo to Kona Freedivers for providing such an outstanding training program, and an even bigger thank you to Micah for her exceptional instruction and unwavering support. I can't wait to continue my freediving adventures with the skills I gained from...

I took the Level 1 Freediver course and although I flunked the certification, it certainly was not due to anything lacking in the class (only my own limitations). Both instructors, Micah and Connor were patient, caring, generous, and relentlessly positive. Same goes for Byron the owner with whom I only had email contact (thank you again Byron).

They keep class size small on purpose – I so appreciated that. Everybody was given first-rate equipment for rent, a manual/workbook with everything you ever wanted to know about freediving, and plenty of individual attention. Plus these guys are safety maniacs. I learned so much about water rescue that now I feel confident I can actually respond appropriately in an emergency even if I never got down to 20 meters on day 2 of the class.

Building on the skills I was taught in this course and with some more practice on my own in other warm waters, I am now able to dive down to 30 feet which before was unthinkable for me - so my teachers' efforts were not in vain after all! If not yet a freediver, I am now an enthusiastic exxtreme snorkeler. So happy I took this class. Thank you Micah and Connor!

PS. Freediving Instructors International (with whom this company partners) offer a re-do if you flunked a course or just want to do it again – anywhere in the world within a year, at no charge. I am seriously planning on taking it again with Kona Freedivers, in real danger of passing the certification this...

This was a great course expertly run by Micah a very talented, articulate, expert in her field freediver. The course was divided by classroom/ lab ( in the ocean) on the first day to go over everything from physiology, free-diving procedures, static breath holds and protocol (as per the FII standards) to diving in the ocean to 20m on day two and then demonstrating you understand the rescue techniques taught in three scenarios and finally a multiple choice 20 question test . This is a difficult course-IF you don’t come in prepared and don’t practice procedures. such as diving techniques and most importantly rescues. Despite doing fairly well on the static breatholds, the line and free diving to 20 meters repeatedly and the written test two of my three rescues were unsatisfactory which I fully agreed with. Perhaps being a creature of old habit ( I’m 57) and too experienced as a scuba dive instructor I was confused with the exact freediving rescue arm positions methodology but now it all made sense. Being an expert scuba or closed circuit diver or having perhaps freedove to extreme depths before does not necessarily make you exempt from the most vital skill set as a free-diver- being good enough to rescue your buddy should the need arise! Alas I’ll do my homework, practice, get in better shape, buy better gear ( low volume mask and long fins) and redo and pass level 1 so I can crush...
