I have been eating there since the early 90s'. Food is ok, great value for the price paid. A bit overrated as a lot of folks mention "must try" place to eat. Gotta hand it to the owners for the great laugh today. Upon arrival, we noticed a lot of "mask required" signs. Consideting mask requirements have been done for nearly a year, we didn't think much about the signs. The man behind the counter stated "you need to wear a mask or pull your shirt over your face" Not wanting to looknlike I was robbing the place, I webt back to my car to retrieve masks frkm my "stash" that I thought I wouldn't be needing. I made my purchase and left. Experience would have been exponentially better if they weren't germophobes. Good place to check out, great selection of plate lunches and baked goods. Definitely not a "must see", more like "check it out if you're on a budget, but want a decent meal or snack."

Famous for Pickled Mango, Pickled Starfruit, Rainbow Bread (Guava, liliko'i, taro), Ulu bread, etc. A must visit for awesome eats! I swear I gain 5 pounds every time I come home. I took a box to take home full of goodies...I should have mailed it. You can take pickled fruits home if commercially made thru agriculture.

Great hole in the wall diner that also has fresh baked bread and other baked goods. Sometimes they have specials, but it's easiest to go in to check them out. The menu consists of some burgers and plate lunches. I'll try and take a pic when I'm there next.

Food quality and taste have gone downhill big time. Not the same as 10 to 15 years ago. Chicken Katsu was the best back in the day with a thin light crisp, very flavorful and fried to a nice golden color using panko flake style. Just like how a Japanese restaurant would prepare it. Now, the batter is thick, hard, (not panko way, more like mochiko chicken), overcooked, dark brown in color and tasted like eating fried thick tasteless flour dough. The chicken itself was bland and had no taste, no seasoning at all. Several tables felt sticky like a layer of grease was baked on. Had to use several wet wipes just to clean one table but even with that, the table still felt dirty. Wipes were filthy, dark brown/black dirt color upon cleaning the table. I guess they don't wipe tables, you have to clean it yourself. Even the register counter where you place your order and pay, felt greasy, dirty and sticky. Customer service was pleasant upon ordering. Very disappointed, couldn't eat it, had to throw it away as it...

I can understand why patrons would complain about this modest establishment. I was here yesterday and I'm sitting here now after having finished the Hilo race. The shredded Kahlua pork is acceptable especially if you use hot sauce and trade out macaroni salad for lettuce and sesame oil. $7.00--so I got what I paid for. I don't think I would take excess risk here. The pork plate yesterday was good enough, so I went with the same alternative today. So, for shredded Kahlua pork, rice and lettuce I came to Lows twice and feel...
