The overall experience had been terrible. I like to give places multiple chances and so I've visited this establishment 3 times so far, and on average its a 2 star experience. Seating is usually quick even on weekends so there's no real wait (red flag). First time I visited it was with a party of 6, months ago. We got seated right away....but no one came to our table for 15 minutes , and it wasn't until a young man at the front noticed that we were unattended and he notified other staff. On this day, the food took about 30 minutes to get out which isn't the best but not the worst I've experienced, but the waitress only came by to get our food and drinks...and then at the end to give us our check. No real service to be honest, no check ups on how the food or drinks are going. Nothing. And I'm sorry to say we still left a tip. Maybe we did leave a tip becuase the food was pretty good like a 3.5/5. Second time was basically the same only difference is we got attended quicker. Third time, we got seated and attended right away. But the food took 45 minutes to get out but it was one plate at a time. Ridiculous. Meaning the last person to get their food waited a whole hour and, for some reason, his food was cold. And I mean he ordered the fajitas and you know how they usually come one sizzling and everyone stares at this searing plate of food? That didn't happen. Becuase it was barely warm. We only notified the waitress but we didn't send the food back- why would I? Just to wait another hour for it? Rice and beans were lukewarm on everyone's plates. Restaurant wasn't even full. The excuse given is the cooks are backed up. And I do mean excuse becuase how does the table next to us with more people get their food in a more timely manner (they waited way less than we did for our food)? And someone in that group also ordered fajitas, and how do i know?? Because they were sizzling hot and you cant just not help but take a look. Hot . Food. That WE didn't get.

Safe to say we are never going to this establishment again. The food is not bad, but its just not worth it. There are better and friendlier Mexican restaurants in Hayward, Union City and , heck, even in...

I really was looking forward to this place based on the reviews. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! First no chips and salsa without an extra charge, ordered a Molcajete for two people with rice and beans on the side as the server claimed it was included. Then was brought a fajita plater TWICE before the Molcajete came.

Then came with no rice and beans except with bean inside the Molcajete? That’s a first. Completely dry inside the Molcajete except with beans, and I inquired about where the rice and beans were? The server then claims there was an extra charge for rice and beans? I’m like okay?? Then she said it was only included in the fajita platter. Then the Molcajete came with only two tortillas for two people, no guacamole or with pico or sauce. A completely dry meal. One taco for each patron I guess? Ordered additional tortillas with another server who delivered the meal but the tortillas never came as our server. So basically, stayed waiting for 20 minutes for our server to order tortillas but the meal was cold already.. by then we were lost our appetite.

Had to walk to the hostess to ask for a manager then waited another 10 minutes, explained the situation to the manager then he disappeared to the kitchen to investigate for another 15 minutes? Tired of waiting we walked to the cashier ready to leave then the manager comes back offering a 30% off the bill which by the way is the most he can give according to restaurant management? When we left 90 percent of the food on the table! Wasted our time investigating the issue than resolving the issue, but was offered to remake the meal for a Togo meal? No thanks we live over an hour away it would be another cold meal that we paid for and if your order and experience were terrible your only given 30% discount..

The busier cleaned the table faster than we got any service. Absolute a waste of time, money and experience from a couple that NEVER complains about the service or food before. We will stick with La Pinata and Penca Azul. Never left disappointed!! This place a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. DO...

Like most reviews for this place, one thing is consistent with all the 1 star reviews and my review. This place is now very inconsistent, lacking of hospitality, management detached to customer's need and the portion of food is getting smaller but the cost is getting higher. I would understand due to the ongoing inflation but that can be partnered with excellent customer service which most customers value the most that makes the experience worth while.

Other customers that came after us, got their food, wait is too long. Bartender Jessica took our order top of the 5th inning Giants vs Phillies and it was just 1 entrée.

Bottom of the 10th inning still no food, so my wife and I decided to call it quits and just go home. We asked for our receipt and 5 minutes later still nothing, so I decided to approach our server/bartender to ask for our receipt.

Between the 5th inning and 10th inning, Manager Luis never made eye contact or check if we were helped or if anyone took our order. Our server only checked once after taking our order which was to refill my glass with water.

Even after getting the receipt at the bar and paying for the drink and 1 entrée that we did not get to enjoy, our food was still not ready.

The owner needs to make sure to evaluate the people they entrust to run their business before its too late. Over the years we frequent this establishment and shared fond memories. The greeters, servers, bartenders and managers showed genuine interest and true meaning of hospitality. Food was once enjoyable and big...

More than a 3 less than a 4 stars. Came here with a group of 9 for a birthday dinner. Drove past this place hundreds of times and never thought to stop. They have a huge building that can accommodate 50+ parties and even park-let style outdoor seating attached to the building. Our server was on point with our party. He checked in on us and made sure all of our food was correct when it was brought out to us. They didn't mess up a single order. I ordered a beergarita (pictured), honey had a regular and others at the table had mango margaritas. The regular margarita glass was smaller than the mango margaritas. All of the margs we're meh. Nothing to call and Uber over. When trying new Mexican restaurants always start with the carne asada, if their carne asada is not strong, the menu won't be strong either. I had the steak wet burrito and honey had the steak, chicken, and shrimp fajitas. The fajitas came with a lot of veggies and they were good too. Both were good and tasted familiar. Someone in another review said it good enough to go back but nothing to crave and I couldn't agree more. Once we left we found out the same owners of Metro Taqueria own this place. Which is why the food tasted a little familiar. Will definitely come back.

I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience given how often my family and I used to dine here. For a long time, we visited this restaurant twice a week despite the higher prices. A typical dinner for three, including two drinks (a beer and a bourbon), was consistently over $100. Unfortunately, when the restaurant began charging for chips and salsa, it changed the experience entirely. What was once a welcoming staple now felt nickel-and-dimed, and it seems many other regulars felt the same way. As a result, we went from being loyal, twice-weekly customers to not returning for more than six months. When I finally did come back—on the opening night of Monday Night Football (Raiders vs. Chargers)—there were six empty seats at the bar and the rest of the restaurant was nearly vacant. While I cannot say with certainty that the decision to charge for chips and salsa alone caused this decline, for an already expensive Mexican restaurant in a city full of excellent alternatives, it may have been the small but significant detail that drove customers away. Better food / better prices at Los Dos Hermans, Vallarta , or El Taquito 1 or 2. (Just to mention a few off the top of my head)

My recent visit to The Mexican Restaurant in Hayward was an absolute delight! After not being there for a couple of years, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had undergone a stunning remodel. The new colonial Spanish vibes create a spectacular aesthetic that instantly caught my eye. For date night, my husband and I decided to sit at the bar, where we were promptly served our drinks. We started off with the Cristalino Tequila flight that was simply exquisite. Since it was a Friday during Lent, we opted for the shrimp quesadilla, which was incredibly tasty and filling. The atmosphere on a Friday night was lively and bustling, with plenty of people enjoying their meals and drinks. I particularly enjoyed the playlist of Mexican music, which added to the overall experience. Overall, The Mexican Restaurant exceeded my expectations with its beautiful ambiance, delicious food, and vibrant atmosphere. I can't wait to go back for another visit
