New Star — Restaurant in Hellertown

Disappointing food. We always try new Chinese restaurants with the hope of finding good, consistent cuisine. While the food appeared to be made well, the taste was just “not there“. We ordered Chow fun, the broad rice noodles. It had a cinnamony taste and I suspect they used a lot of five spice powder. The noodles were cooked well, but the aftertaste killed it.

I ordered MaPo tofu , which is a good test of a Chinese restaurant. Everybody makes theirs differently, but despite the variations, it is often flavored well. This one had that same cinnamon taste that the chow funsuffered from. Tofu was used, as opposed to soft tofu in most restaurants, but I actually preferred it. But again, the flavor was not good.

We ordered boneless spareribs. They are usually a good appetizer. These were tough and overcooked. Again, it tasted similar to the other food.

If you enjoy the taste of the food, you will be blessed with consistency. You may have to drive a bit farther, but I believe there are better options within a...

Update 1/22: And the freshness & tasty cooking continues. I've had one or two dishes this year that weren't fabulous, but, in general, the restaurant has served fresh dishes, fresh vegetables, and food with flavor. Worth extra $1 for extra veggies in a dish, too! Yes, we eat general style type dishes- but, let's be real- if a restaurant can't reliably produce these can you count on them for anything else? Purchased a simple vegetable fried rice and wongton soup. Did not realize that bag was leaking got off elevator only to have paper bag break open and spill contents all over floor. Called told them about what happened brought back to store. Also this soup leaked all ove my seat. Told and showed pictures of what happened. Problem they have two young kids working not paying attention and the young boy overcharging only to remind him I was told a different Price over phone. The young girl was very rude clueless!!!
