Two stars for cold food.
One star (although they should get none) for service
One star for atmosphere since I spent a half our in the parking lot waiting for 'curbside' service.
I'm originally from Greensburg, but have lived in various part of Pittsburgh since 1988 and have been a long time Primanti's customer. After a long day I convinced my 82 year old mother to give the Greensburg Primanti's a try even though she was a little skeptical that she would like both slaw & fries on a sandwich. I decided to try curbside service for the first time so I could quickly pick up our food and get it home (my mom is in the beginning stages of dementia & has a hard time leaving the house). I ordered online and followed the prompts stating that I was 'on my way' and that I 'had arrived' in parking space 'number 3'.
I'm a fairly patient person & understand that the food service has had a rough time ever since the pandemic so I waited for 10 minutes in the curbside parking are in front of the restaurant. Then I called the phone number that was posted on the sign in front of the space I was sitting in only to get a busy signal. I waited some more and called again only to get an employee quickly answer the phone to immediately put me on hold. At this point 25 minutes had passed so I finally decided to go inside.
Although the bar side of the establishment was full, the restaurant side was completely empty. A rack that contained two bags of food (one was mine, the other was for the patron parked next to me) was sitting on a rack in front of the hostess station with one employee slowly sweeping up & ignoring the food that was supposed to be delivered outside. When another employee rushed in from the bar area I told her I had used the online curbside ordering feature from start to finish, was put on hold when I called, & had been waiting outside for almost a half hour trying to be patient. She quickly told me that they were sort handed & no one can hear the phone. I asked why no one was paying attention to the online orders, the food that was waiting to be delivered outside, or the two cars (one of them mine) sitting in front of the building with their headlights on and she shrugged her shoulders & responded with another lame excuse. I was finally handed my food, rushed it home to my mom, only to have two ice cold sandwiches & a melting cheesecake burrito to show for it.
I rarely, if ever, give bad reviews, but this is one instance that not only deserves it for the lack of thoughtfulness, professionalism, inconvenience, & inadequate compensation for a job done poorly, but also because it gives an almost century old Pittsburgh mainstay a bad name. I've supported every Pittsburgh location for decades & this is the first time I've ever had such a poor experience that would have taken less time to enter the building to order than it did to try the 'convenience' of online ordering.
Being short handed is no excuse for pretending that the curbside service doesn't exist or that the bar patrons are more important than those purchasing food. I've read a lot of recent reviews from customers that have complained about the state of service, quality of food, environmental conditions that could be detrimental to the public, & now these issues with online ordering. If you want an excellent Primanti's experience, I would suggest trying any of the Pittsburgh locations before you waste your time & hard earned money here, especially if it's your a first time customer.
It appears that multiple 'course corrections' aren't working at the Greensburg location. Being a 'Primanti Brothers' in name only is a great way to dilute the brand & an even better way to lose the trust of it's patrons right after the restaurant crash of 2020. Again, I encourage you to visit any of the locations that are closer to the Steel City & leave this...
Read moreHonestly, the majority of the times I've gone to a Primanti location, it has just been a chill drinking night with friends; generally only ordering some appetizers.
However, I received a Primanti gift card so I figured I would put it to good use and make a date night out of it for my girlfriend and I. Let me just start by saying, if you have to go to the restroom (men), DON'T. Hold it. Do whatever you can to not use the restrooms here. After arriving, I made a stop in the restroom, and soon realized that my shoes were going to need some serious disinfecting. The floor surrounding the urinals was absolutely disgusting. Puddles... No, we're going to go with... lakes... lakes of urine. You could quite literally get splashed from even stepping too hard. I'm not one to point out little things, and trust me, I've been to quite a few bars and grungier places in my life, but nothing, and I repeat NOTHING, comes even close to the mess that I encountered here. I am not sure if it was caused by a long day of "ricochet", or just one person (more like a whole group) who has terrible aim. Regardless, the soles of my shoes were so unbelievably saturated, I was slipping on the floor in the bathroom, continued to slip on my way back to the table, and my feet were sliding out from under me while I was sitting at the table for, I'd say, probably a good 10 minutes after returning.
Now that we got that out of the way, the service was subpar if I am being honest. Once again, I am not the type of person to be even remotely critical when it comes to waiters/waitresses because I know I could never do that job. Long story short, regarding the person waiting our table, you could've found more personality in a graveyard. The only interaction between us and them was placing our order, and getting the check.
The food was what you would expect and reasonably priced considering the portions. I ordered a cheese steak (I don't remember their specific terminology), and my girlfriend order a roast beef sandwich. I can't necessarily speak for her, but mine was great. We also ordered some wings since we went on a Sunday during their wing special. 79¢ wings if I remember correctly. We ordered ten garlic parmesan wings, they brought us 8, charged us for ten (this was corrected after I addressed it). But honestly, they really weren't that appealing. It was one of those foods that smell better than they taste. Also worth mentioning that they are swimming in grease.
Overall, I really don't know if I will ever go back to this location. Did we just pick a really horrible day to go? Maybe, maybe not. I decided to give a rating of three stars, purely out of consideration that we may have just gone at the worst possible time, plus the food was good, well for the most part. I have had much better luck at other locations in the past. But this one is a no-go for me. So if you decide to go, men, remember to bring your lifejacket and waders if you can't hold it. I also might suggest wearing a clown suit to lighten up the...

So, what hasn't changed? The food remains top-notch. My wife and our friend both had their chicken wings - they each had different sauces they were doused in - from the mild Buffalo sauce to something a bit more spicier - they enjoyed it all. In fact, my wife felt they were the best wings she has ever had - a statement she does not toss around lightly. I had their Rajun Cajun Chicken Primanti Original Sandwich. A massive monstrosity of a sandwich of which I could only eat half of - it was delicious, except for the fact that they didn't toast the bread. More to come on that below...
Service was super friendly and efficient. Our waitress kept close tabs on us, kept our drinks filled, and did a decent job of filling us in on the delays from the kitchen. She was apologetic and her attempts to keep us updated did not go unnoticed.
The place remains lively, their bar area has plenty of seating and there's a ton of seating inside for patrons to get to . Plenty of TVs with sports of all sorts to distract your attention from the table conversation. All good though...
Now, the nit of the night - the kitchen, for some odd reason, was painfully slow. Other than our waitress who had to apologize to us several times for the delay, and had to give us a few (inaccurate) updates from the kitchen, themselves, I was disappointed that the management didn't come by to apologize. I found it distasteful that they left that to the waitress to deal with. While the meals for my wife and our friend came out as expected, my sandwich came untoasted - something I frankly noticed but decided to make no qualms about as we were running late to our next function. Due to the food showing up late (and by late I mean an hour late) we had to rush through our dinner as we had somewhere else to be. If it weren't for this unfortunate circumstance, the entire experience this evening would have been truly special. Ah well, maybe next time, but, it will...
