In a word, wow! I would just like to say that Robokyo is one of my family’s all time favorite places to dine. If we could, we would probably eat here every evening. The staff is generally always quick and friendly at the hostess station. Here and there you’ll catch someone cranky but it’s pretty rare. The food (EVERYTHING) is always extraordinary and the chefs are a smash to watch, every single time! It is next to impossible to ever have a bad time or bad service! Everything in this establishment is cooked to perfection, right there in front of you. So for anyone who has a problem with their meal being prepared out of their site, this is a perfect spot for you. Honestly, what more could one ask for? It’s dinner and a show!
The waitress/wait staff is terrific, as well. They’re always very polite and kind. Even when the restaurant is busy, they do their very best to stay attentive to their guests and to keep top of their tables. Their hard work does not go unnoticed. There have only been a (child’s size) handful of times that we’ve had poor service from a waitress! Overall 99% of the waitress/wait staff is superb and a few of them are even truly wonderful with children... which is impossible to find these days. Kudos to them, and to Robokyo!
And, oh my, those chefs! Literally, wow! Even when a chef is a newer chef to the grill he still knocks it out of the park every time. When our most favorite Chef left Robokyo to start his own food truck business we were pretty bummed, but ecstatic for him that he was getting to follow his dreams!
We have since met another young man whom is a positively terrific chef. We prefer to ask for/recommend him now if he is free and on shift when we go for dinner. His name is Thomas. I suppose you can say he has become our “go-to-guy”. Thomas has shown us from day one, and continually demonstrated over and over again, that he has a terrific personality, and our two boys (ages 5 & 8) were smitten and smiling with him from the get go (take it from me, that is one hell of an accomplishment). Thomas seems to have the ability to leave the outside world at the door when he comes to work and it is evident that he genuinely enjoys what he does. We can say without doubt that Thomas’s consistent cheerfulness, his ability to be so humorous congruously and, the added bonus that he is excellent with children, pushes him to the top for us. I felt wanted to share our experiences With this restaurant and about Chad Thomas because it is not often enough that people speak about the good in others. My final say? Robokyo is extraordinary and I’m hoping they stay around for a very...
Read moreI go here about three times a year. Once for my birthday, once for her birthday, and once on Valentine's Day.
We've been to other hibachi in the Pittsburgh area (Yokoso, Nakama), and Robokyo, for my money, is superior to both.
I cannot comment on the sushi because I do not care for it myself, but she enjoys it.
The showmanship at the restaurant over the 10 or so times I've been there has been hit-and-miss (I still can't do any of the tricks that even the weakest of them can do, so I'm not going to criticize too harshly), but the meals have always been delicious and (over)filling. I generally get the Triple Combination with the shrimp appetizer.
The decor is fairly bland. If you are the type to prefer to walk into Japan when you come to a hibachi restaurant, then this might not be for you. But if you're like me, and aren't really put off by that (all they really have is a dragon hanging from the ceiling in the lobby and the Mens and Womens restrooms are labelled "Ninjas" and "Geishas," respectively), it won't detract.
Of the many hibachi places I've been, the only one better has been Kampai in Mt. Prospect, IL (and mainly because of their shrimp coated in their own garlic butter).
I would recommend that you bring a fat wallet, though, because prices are fairly high for the typical...
Read moreRobokyo definitely made a name for itself by being the first Hibachi Japanese Steakhouse in the Greensburg area. It doesn't hurt that it's located in a beautifully restored historical landmark, a toll house just off of the Lincoln Highway aka Rt. 30.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant and fits the general Hibachi tone...dim, nostalgic, and strangely secretive. Like every Hibachi place, the tables are too crowded and it's hard to eat all the delicious food in tight quarters especially with strangers. But it's all part of the allure, right?
The staff is professional, well trained, and courteous. The chefs are excellent about preparing food as requested. The menu covers popular Hibachi dishes plus more great fare. AND...now to applaud the vast selection of Sushi and Sashimi, from Traditional Rolls to Hoso Maki. It is all amazing.
Just a couple side notes...huge banquet room, bar, outdoor patio bar in warmer weather, and tons of parking. Oh, make reservations, especially on weekends.
The food is the best Hibachi and Sushi I've had...
