In my many travels across this great country I typically avoid airport food and drink, usually finding the quality lacking and price inflated. However, on a recent trip through Washington Dulles International Airport I was so taken by a local coffee brew house that I felt I needed to weigh in.
If one has never visited Dulles Airport, just envision a transportation hub as efficient and speedy as the DMV with the customer service of a national cable broadband distributor. Unsurprisingly, my flight was delayed by 55 minutes, due to arrive home by 1 am. On my way to log a complaint with the customer service desk (which sported a healthy line) I decided to pick up a quick cup of coffee to keep me alert and awake for the now very late drive home. I passed by the Starbucks, not supporting the Seattle superbrand since the chain recently updated the terms to their star rewards membership program, severely diluting the value of each "star" earned, a topic for another review.
I walked into the Capital Grounds Coffee shop, taken by their cheery Washington faux patriotic decor. I ordered a Caffè Mocha, hoping the extra money spent would be rewarded with increased care and pride in the preparation of the beverage. The order was ready quickly and I remarked on the chintzy cup design which featured a hastily fashioned logo of overlapping letters surrounded by a field of bright coffee beans. Expectations were decidedly low.
The first sips of the beverage mollified my concerns over the cup design. The Mocha had been prepared perfectly, the heavy espresso roast balanced by a well proportioned mixture of light and delicate frothed cream and chocolate. This was a full bodied coffee experience and I slowly felt my harsh critiques of Dulles lacked weight and purpose. I was taken with the pleasantness of the roast and found that the cup design was a fitting salute to the hard working barristas who transform locally grown beans into a patriotic tribute to the coffee institution, the very fuel which powers this great country.
This coffee shop should be a go-to location for serious coffee connoisseurs who aren't afraid to have the bar raised on their expectations for the hardy benefit a well crafted beverage can provide.

Now everyone makes mistakes so not a big deal, I'll just go up and tell them and I'm sure they fix it. So I told them that I asked for ham and bacon on this and they just took it out of my hand without saying sorry for the mix up or anything at all. So they call me up after they "fix" it. As I sit down and check the sandwich again, no bacon but the ham is there. So I make my way back to the counter. I tell them the issue and am told the I only ordered ham. I said no, I ordered Ham and bacon(twice by the way, when I ordered it originally then when I told them about the first mess up). After that I was yelled at saying that I only ordered ham and she said I'm just going to charge you for the bacon to. I said no and I wanted my money back. They complied but to come and find out they also overcharged me when I ordered in the first place so she tried to only give me half my money back. Finally I got my money back but I'm still hungry.

Read moreHi, I hope this message reaches corporate as I received terrible customer service as an airport employee. I was not greeted or offered assistance. When I reached the register, I was met with hostile staff with their arms crossed. The gentleman behind the counter forced the tip page even though all I had were chips and bottled water. My badge is always visible and around my neck. When I received my receipt, I asked the gentleman if the airport discount had been applied. He looked at me, puzzled, and squinted at my badge as if it were fake. I told him I was an airport employee. He looked at my receipt and said no and just said sorry. This is my second time visiting this grab-and-go, and I have always been met with unfriendly staff who never greet me. I believe your staff would benefit from Fraport's customer...
