I waited a day to write this review and I’m glad I did because it didn’t register to me until last night how the whole timeline of events took place. I typically don’t go to pizza places because I’m very lactose intolerant. my daughter-in-law and her friend and my son highly suggested it and said there are other things on the menu such as burgers etc. We went there for a later lunch a linner if you will 😂 when we got there I scanned the menu and I realized it is just pizza and I was a little devastated but luckily in small print we did find that it said vegan cheese available on all pizza’s. so like OK cool and I saw their temporary or limited time menu and there was Corn ribs and the waiter came and I asked if they could make this lactose free and he said he would go in the kitchen and ask. the only thing lactose on it was a yogurt instead of the typical mayonnaise that is used on Mexican street corn he came back said yes they could accommodate that. I said fantastic I would love to have an order of that. My son also got an appetizer of cheese bread I took a smaller end piece and scooped out any cheese and just ate the crust that was delightful with the marinara sauce. The corn ribs (without the yogurt) were delicious. When it was time to order the pizza though I went last and I ordered the vegan cheese on my pizza to the same waiter who had helped me previously with the lactose free option for the appetizer. He was taking our order for this and this is the part that didn’t hit me until later Last night .. he asked if I still wanted the chicken on it .. i said yes i love chicken, i just cant have regular cheese and it didn’t even dawn on me that he thought I was ordering the vegan cheese because I was vegan not because of the lactose intolerance that I had previously mentioned to him and had the appetizer made lactose free.i am pretty sure this is where the confusion happened.
All the pizzas come out they look fantastic I’m looking at mine and I’m looking at everyone else’s and mine looked just like theirs and I was like wow this is some amazing vegan cheese because normally that does not melt well. I looked at theirs looked at mine again and I was like OK and against my better judgment I tried the smallest piece on the tray and after a few bites I realized I honestly do not think this is vegan cheese.. there’s no way it’s way too good to be true. When the waiter comes over I asked him if this was vegan cheese and he said no he absolutely forgot and he’s like but you ate a piece and I was like yeah because mind you this was my first time here and I did not know what their vegan cheese looked like or what to expect. He says if the rest of the table wants they can finish the pizza and he’ll hurry and have a vegan cheese one made. The manager came out and apologized and asked if i was going to be ok. I said i hope so. They brought out the new pizza and comped both pizzas. That is fine I thought that was very nice I totally would’ve paid for one of them. The vegan cheese pizza did look like a normal vegan cheese didn’t melt right (like usual) but it was actually very tasty. The whole experience was actually pretty great. Both if them apologized profusely. unfortunately though the regular cheese did hit me but luckily we made it just in time to my son and daughter-in-law‘s home before any incident occurred 💩🫣. Have I suffered for it for the last 24 hours yes but the customer service was fantastic and I will just double check before biting into anything and making sure that it’s the vegan cheese 😂
I get it mistakes happen luckily for me it’s an intolerance and not an allergy. They did everything to make it right and then some and for that i was very appreciative. I left about a 35% tip on the remaining bill because they were nice and honestly I would’ve paid for the corrected pizza...
Read moreI have heard great things about slackwater and I have been to the Sandy location before. I was in the South Jordan area and was excited to try the new Herriman spot. It was great to see a local business pop up in the expanding area near daybreak!
We weren’t greeted for quite sometime and the server greeted us by blaming it on her coworker for not telling her. It seemed a bit unprofessional to immediately introduce yourself by ratting out your colleague but whatever.
We ordered drinks, a few apps and then each got our own entree. We also ordered a dessert. It wasn’t until the second half of the visit that I really became irritated. One of my friends and I both asked for ranch. When my friend finished her meal, the server asked if she wanted a ranch to go. A few seconds later she snatched my half eaten ranch from my spot and glared at me. We were all a bit confused at what I did and what her problem was. I wasn’t even done with that ranch & I wasn’t offered one to go. One of my other friends asked on behalf of me for a ranch to go, the server smiled and brought her one & then watched my friend immediately hand it over to me. When it came time for the bill, I was the only one that got an upcharge for ranch. For one, I cannot find it anywhere on the menu that they do such a thing. But more than anything, it’s the principle. She had such an attitude with me and only charged me for ranch, even though she took away my cup before I was done and didn’t give me one to-go. There’s also a “monkey dressing” charge on my bill…whatever that is.
I got the buffalo chicken pizza for my entree and it was good. The ranch was good and paired well with the pizza but comes with a price & I’m not talking about money, but resentment with the staff, apparently. My friends liked the spin-art dip. We also ordered the stuffed cheese sticks, which were decent. The beignets were good too. They tasted like what would happen if a squirrel and a monkey had to feed their baby.
Overall, I was not impressed by the server whatsoever and don’t plan on coming back to this location. I’d be willing to try other Slackwater items at a different location, but...
Read moreOctober 2024 review: We ordered take out for a work luncheon. The food was ok. All of the food was cold though. We had to heat it up, in a microwave, which made things less appealing. Not really a great first experience here.
January 2025 review: The owner reached out and left us feeling a lot better after my second time having their food. Dave invited me back to try out their food. I went back when a friend of ours recommended it because they had been to the location in SLC. I almost forgot to let Dave know we were going until we had ordered already. I sent him a text and he called me to see how things were and said he'd reach out to his staff while we were there. He ended up comping our whole meal, which I did not expect. I thought maybe a free appetizer or an entrée. But he went above and beyond. I had told him that I think it was just bad circumstance on my first experience, and that the person bringing the food back had taken a bit too long. But he didn't seem bothered and wanted to make it up. The food was amazing and the staff were great. I met the GM while we were there, who came up to ask how things were and everyone was raving about the food. It was very much appreciated and showed that they do care how the experience is. It was very fulfilling to see how much they cared about the customers when my wife and I had been through a string of bad restaurant visits recently, where those restaurants didn't seem to care at all. So I'm glad they are here in Herriman close to us. And they try to source locally for their food and drinks. We really liked that. There is also an EV charging station outside which we saw one person taking advantage of while we were there. I won't hesitate to go back again, and again....
