What gives?? I went through the drive-through yesterday, and the Hommer burger seems.... different. Like, they stopped hand-pressing it and stopped using Tony Chachere's seasoning? It was bland, and the patty even looked like a pre-packaged lesser-quality burger (like if you order the non-Hommer burger..); it definitely wasn't what I've ALWAYS gotten for the last 10 years. I called to ask if the recipe changed, or if I had possibly gotten someone else's order and was told, "Well, I personally watched them make the burger, so I know it was correct and the same way we always make it, but you can come by, and we'll remake it for you if that's what you want."
It wasn't worth my time to drive back across Hickory, so I took that as a loss... Today, I ordered online. I got the manager's breakfast special with the eggs over medium (should be runny yolk and firm whites), bacon, and grits with cheddar and white toast. I also ordered my co-worker a livermush sandwich (plain on white bread).
I got back to my desk at work, and my co-worker's food was spot on. Mine, however... my eggs were over hard (everything solid as a hard-boiled egg), and where was my toast? Not in my order. Apparently, since I had also ordered a breakfast sandwich, it was decided that I didn't need toast as well.
The bottom line is that I used to rave about Windy City Grill! I loved their food. In fact, I am writing this in place of my previous rating of 5 stars across the board. But to be told yesterday that I was wrong about something that was now pretty obviously different, and now today, with half of my order being wrong, I don't know if I can recomend them anymore.
If I do decide to go back, and anything has changed for the better, I will update this review to reflect my experience, however, as of now I don't think it will be...
Read moreCouple things I can add about this place. I want to say I love this small joint. They have great food but I can add some things here. Recently they put their toasted breakfast sandwiches in aluminum foil which just makes everything soggy. So if you order take out nothing comes out "on toast" I usually have to re-toast it if I can so I can eat it how I want. they have Styrofoam cups which I do like over paper. Main concern is it needs some emprovements to make drive thru service faster. The place has limited seating inside and parking outside so improving the drivethru would help you out A LOT. They won't tell you the total of your food until you pull to the window either so that can really slow down a line. Multiple times i've drove by and passed you guys up because the line is too long and I don't have...
Read moreWindy City Grill (aka Homers) is a cozy little restaurant that sits on highway 127 in the Viewmont neighborhood of Hickory, NC. This is a must go to place when you are in town. They offer a variety of options or you can go for breakfast and get a livermush, egg, and cheese 🤤 or you can go for lunch and get one of their famous cheeseburgers. You can go through the drive thru or you can go inside and sit at a booth or sit at the counter and be waited on. Personally, I prefer to go inside and sit at the counter. It's a more personal experience. The employees here are top notch. They are super friendly and very polite. I guess you can say that this is a good ole hometown diner. Please, if you're in town visiting Hickory, stop by and grab a burger at Windy City Grill. You won't be...
