🚨🚨🚨Hello people who read these reviews. I have some things to tell you about this particular CityBBQ. From it's food quality and to its staff. The food is not worth the price. I know that some will disagree and that's ok. The food quality has gone down hill. The main issue is them running out of popular food items like Ribs, Pork, Turkey, and even Brisket too early in the day or night. I would suggest getting BBQ elsewhere. The replacement General Manager ,Brandon Branch, who took over for Steve Hoover when he left, has let this place get this way. Kendall Vaunt, the assistant manager, is also to blame. If you want ghetto food and ghetto service, then you are at the right place. Customer service there is not up to even CityBBQ standards. The shift leaders there are a joke, Jessica and Ashley. They do not care about the customers......just their paychecks. This applies to all the managers there. If they truly cared about their customers, it would clearly show. The restaurant stays nasty from front to back. The lack of respect between team members and sometimes customers shows. If you want good food at a reasonable price and better service, I recommend you go elsewhere. This particular CityBBQ does not deserve your time and money. Most of these workers here are drug addicts. Brandon and Kendall refuse to hire any real quality team members. They would rather hire ghetto employees or have people who transfer from near by stores that are lazy workers than hard workers. The ratio of black to white employees is 98% black and 2% white or other. This was not the case when Steve Hoover was the General Manager. But I do know that each person must find this out for oneself. Not every customer will have a bad experience but read the one star ⭐ reviews for information. All that CityBBQ really cares about is making money. Not it's customers. This includes CityBBQ Corporate out of Ohio. Last but not least, everything I have said is true and a fact. I can not tell you not to do business here, but it is my duty to let you know the behind the scenes. I just recommend people to use some common sense and eat elsewhere, where they appreciate your business and make sure you are important to them. Just remember....food quality, customer service, and restaurant cleanliness has declined since all the real hard workers are no longer working there. Find out for yourself. Everyone have a blessed day.🚨🚨🚨 Ignore all the fake reviews. That will not improve...
Read moreTo be a barbecue chain in a state well-known for barbecue is to exist under a cloud of suspicion. City Barbeque seems well aware of this as even the very name (absent a “Kansas”) seems calibrated to lower expectations. Indeed, the walls are adorned with the approximate distance to better-known BBQ joints. All of this is to say that this place makes no pretense of trying to dethrone a local favorite, which is just as well as the meat quality here cannot touch the likes of Black Powder or Biscuits, Brisket, and Brews. What it lacks in bona fides, it makes up for in convenience though there is still room for improvement.
Enter City Barbeque, and you’ll be greeted by a hunger-inspiring smell and a large digital menu. There are salads and sandwiches though the meats are likely to be the main draw. You can do them ala carte, by the pound, or in a sampler platter. Should you save room for dessert, chocolate cake, cobbler, and banana pudding are available as well.
For our first visit, my wife and I split a City Sampler (4 meats/2 sides/1 bread) and a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. We opted for brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, smoked sausage, fried okra, hush puppies, and Texas toast. We didn’t have long to wait for our food, and we found an impressive array of sauces (sweet, heat, vinegar, mustard, and more) to pair with it.
The food proved to be a decidedly mixed bag. The brisket was legitimately good, probably the best I’ve had at a chain. The Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich was tasty as well, offering mayo and creamy slaw to offset a less saucy chicken breast. Its heat + sweet pickle combination remains a winner. The turkey and hushpuppies held their own. On the other hand, the sausage, while flavorful, was very salty, the okra was forgettable, the pork was dry, and the “Texas toast” was only a hot dog bun.
City Barbeque probably won’t be your first choice when a barbecue craving hits, but the ease of ordering, quick turn-around, and number of menu options mean that it shouldn’t be ruled out, either. Just the same, you’ll have to watch what...
Read moreI think it's terrible so far. There's 800 people that live right behind the restaurant. They've given us no coupons or promoted their business whatsoever. I was just told sheets that they're giving us the right to purchase barbecue before opening and I was just turned down so my money will never be spent here and I will definitely be saying everything to the 800 people that live behind them. Update ordered four ribs. Got three. Have a salad that's not even half full. Also with fries everything is very cold and I don't understand why I have to keep paying for food with this kind of quality. I will not be eating here ever again. I'll just walk across the street to Carolina barbecue. Okay this is an update. I just came back on September 26th, 2003 it took me three tries to get hot food. The wrong order twice and I had to walk back several times. I swear to god this place can not make any more mistakes. I don't understand how people are still eating it this place!!! The management is trash. Customer service is trash and when you pay $30 for one person just to get the correct order and actually have hot food I don't understand it. There was burnt bread behind the counter watching them reheat the food I brought back in when they told me to keep the food but I wanted to show them how cold it was after ordering it coming back in to show them how cold it was. Just a receive the wrong order all over again. So the only thing I can tell you guys is inspect your food even if you live 1 minute 2 minutes away. Make sure it's hot. Make sure it's the right order and don't trust anything coming from any restaurant ever again. I have worked in so many restaurants and I would have been ridiculed and smashed by my manager if I did this and would have been held accountable for this. I hate the world we live in. It's not like we all have a bunch of money to throw around and be like. Oh that's okay!! This is okay at $30. No juice, no fat. Nothing...
