China Star — Restaurant in Highland Park

I have been coming to China Star for the last 14 years. Under the last owners this place was clean, food was amazing. The new owners that took over have destroyed a great establishment. The food is slow. The inside of the establishment is DISGUSTING. The owners children were running from the front to the kitchen, touching the floor, their faces, and cooking stations The chefs were wiping the sweat from their faces with the same ungloved hand they were handling food with, There is all sorts of open food everywhere, I observed raw chicken and vegetables being cut on the same surface with the same utensils without any sort of washing in between. Everything is covered in grease and slime, my feet literally stuck to the floor with every step. DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY. BE AWARE FOR HYGIENE CONCERNS!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! UNSAFE AND...

Placed a phone order. Went to pick it up. UBER waited. Went in and no order. Front staff woman slaps a takeout menu and said you dialed the wrong number. I said no I dialed the number you aggressively thrust at me. I showed her my cellphone records.

In a matter of 5 minutes she hastily shoved the bag at me and I paid. Never apologized and put the blame on me. She does barely speak English and told me, demandingly that she never got the order. Interesting how the order was negligently and hastily packaged.

I was told by the manager that she has a lot of anxiety and doesn't speak English well. I would have love to have retorted, why is she working there then if you know these things.

I've been ordering from China Star since I moved to Highland Park in 2007. Over time it's changed owners and the menu has changed a little. What hasn't changed is that food is delicious! I got an orange chicken combo with pork fried rice and it was SO GOOD! I had asked for extra spicy orange sauce and it was great! The orange sauce is really well balanced and not overly sweet. The pork fried rice was also really good and not greasy. The portion was very generous and I saved half for lunch...
