DOUBLE CHECK RECEIPT FOR SCAM! Have been going to mi Tierra for almost 10 years now and have never had an issue like this, but with how this scenario was dealt with, I am genuinely upset enough to have ruined my customer loyalty and write a review. After a normal dinner (4 people) everything seemed great, but when we received our bills we noticed a gratuity tip included. Thinking it was a bit odd we did the math and it came out to 23.5% which I have never seen before. After asking for a menu it said 6 people and above an 18% gratuity would be included but we were 4. So I asked for the server (Stefany) and we watched her go into the bathroom. After 15 minutes of cat and mouse with her colleagues trying to get her out of the bathroom she finally noticed we weren’t leaving without talking to her. She then proceeded to say how it was only 21% included and that it’s normal for gratuity to be included. We all knew that this was complete BS because we did the math and we all have worked in food and beverage. After getting the manager he voided the transaction and took it off our bill. Stefany was no where to be found and all of the servers seemed to be chuckling and making fun of us about the situation which is really why I’m most upset. When asking the manager about why she did that this was his answer verbatim “ usually drunk people don’t tip so we put it on for them” which was so shocking that he blatantly admitted to this scam. At the end of talking to the manager Stefany came over and I asked what we did wrong for her to treat us like this, and she acted clueless and gave a snarky remark “next time I am ID’ing” which we found comedic because it’s her job to ID people as she is admitting to serving without doing so and we were all above the drinking age. If Stefany would have dealt with the situation like an adult and apologized for the mistake we would’ve left 20% and called it a day. But since that is far from what happened I had to let...
Read moreThis restaurant is amazing! First, it is tucked away a little. We would never have found it without a gps. The decor is old authentic Mexico. I know there have been issues with waiting to be seated ( I had a friend who left because after 5 minutes of waiting for a hostess to give them attention, they didn’t want to wait any longer). We were seated immediately. Jonathan was our waiter. AWESOME! He checked on us frequently, always happy and smiling, and fast. We have 5 kids, so we were nothing special to say the least. The chips and salsa were excellent! I’ve never had salsa like that!! By far, the best! (I hate jar, store bought salsa) This was not that. Chips came out hot. I ordered a mango margarita (actually 2). They were amazing. Next food...I had carne asada (thin steak) and my husband had carne asada Hundurian style (ticker streak). BOTH WERE PERFECT!! I loved the beans, and the pico de gallo with the meal! There was no cactus salad like other Mexican restaurants (it’s good stuff, but a waste of space on a plate, seriously). One of my kids had the Kids chicken tenders with fries. When I took the picture, we had eaten half his fries. THEY WERE AWESOME! And his chicken tenders were perfectly fried and seasoned. Even my husband loved them. Great portion for a 2 & 4 year old! My 5 year old ordered a kids quesadilla, but that was gonna before I could take a picture. Also excellent. My 2 older boys ordered the beef/chicken fajitas. Came out sizzling hot, more than enough food, and they loved it! I ordered the chicken soup from the appetizer. So delicious...chunks of avocado, carrots, chicken breast...it was amazing! I would absolutely recommend this to everyone who passes through HHI. I’m just sorry we found it on our last night there. We will probably pass through just for this place. YES, IT...
Read moreMy wife and I ate at Mi Tierra for the first time recently. We went with friends from church who go there often. It is a place that I have noticed and intended to try, so I was excited to enjoy this night out with friends.
The atmosphere is nice. It looks like one would expect a Mexican restaurant to look, which isn't a bad thing. I don't really enjoy restaurants that are stuffy and pretentious. I found Mi Tierra to be quite comfortable and inviting. I also don't enjoy restaurants that play loud music and make conversations difficult, so it was nice to be able to sit at a booth with friends and easily converse.
I ordered chicken fajitas. The meal arrived in a reasonable amount of time following our order, and I was impressed with both the presentation and quantity of food. On a hot skillet were the fajitas, the perfectly grilled chicken resting on a bed of onions, peppers, and tomatoes. A side plate held the accompaniments to the fajitas: beans, rice, pico de gallo, and guacamole. The meal was made complete with four corn tortillas served in a warmer. I had the choice of flour or corn when ordering.
So, it looked good and there was plenty of it, but how did it taste? It was really good! Everything was flavorful, delicious, and prepared properly.
My wife ordered a stacked enchilada containing both beef and chicken. She really liked it, and since she only ate half, I had her leftovers for lunch the next day. (I probably should have saved some of my fajitas for a lunch as well, but let's not judge!)
Our server was friendly and efficient. He checked back with our table during the meal to make sure all was okay. So, I declare this place a winner! I left the restaurant thinking about returning sometime soon. I can almost hear the sizzle of...
