We visited the Kind of Blue restaurant and show yesterday to take in the dueling pianos. Well, we are feeling blue. Let me first start with the server, he was very friendly and did a decent job of taking care of collecting our order. The app came out in a short period of time which was fine and it tasted good.
Here is when things went sideways.
The music did not start on time which was explained by technical issues, ok things happen. The food took a while to arrive and the music had started by this time. Lets just say the lighting is very low so I could not see what I was eating, especially the ribeye. While the meat tasted good I could not tell if I was cutting fat or meat. I'm sure most of it was wasted. The veggies were hard and undercooked. Potatoes were fine.
By this time the show had started and instead of a preplanned show it was nothing more than a Karaoke show. Nothing but taking suggestions for money. So the selections were all over and honestly not very good. Here is where it really gets bad, the volume was so loud I could not hear the server, my wife or even think. I like loud music, this was so bad I looked at my wife and we had enough and left. We dropped $120 for a meal that was decent but not great, a dinner show that was intolerable, and left with a headache and ears ringing. Honestly I don't know how the others stayed; well many were intoxicated.
So needless to say the overall experience was very disappointing and to spend that much for such a bad time leaves a very bad taste in the mouth.
We definitely will not go back to dueling pianos, like I said, it was not a show, but a Karaoke bar, had we known, there is no way we would have gone.
Usually when we experience something like this we want to hear from the owner or manager to see if they can make things right. We shall see.
So if your looking for a loud, ear popping, Karaoke night, this is for you.
Otherwise, avoid the piano show at all costs, you have been notified. Maybe the other entertainers are much better, I doubt we will find out.
Kind of Blue, the ball is in your court.
10/3/2025 Been several days since I wrote the review which I stand by. I see the responses are only for positive feedback but not much for negative. If your running an establishment the good goes with the bad. Awaiting to hear your response to our dueling piano nightmare. Not...
Read moreKind of Blue is more than just a restaurant; it's a Hilton Head "Gem." It is an absolute treasure located at 19 Dunnagan's Alley in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Gospel Jazz Brunch is a Sunday buffet, including Bottomless Mimosas from 11 am to 2 pm. We enjoyed the scrambled eggs, chopped potatoes, grits prepared two ways (regular or cheesy), bacon, sausage links, and the homemade pancakes, which were the shining star of the meal. Each dish was prepared to perfection, showcasing the culinary expertise of the kitchen.
One standout feature at Kind of Blue is their made-to-order omelet station, allowing you to tailor it to your preferences. The meticulous attention to detail and the wide array of options making this station remarkable.
Furthermore, in addition to the superb menu items, Kind of Blue presents a delightful assortment of fruits and sweets to indulge your cravings.
What sets Kind of Blue apart, though, is not just the outstanding food but also the incredible staff. Everyone went above and beyond, from the waitress to the bartender, to ensure guests were happy and well cared for. Their dedication to creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere was evident throughout.
However, the live music is the real magic of the Gospel Jazz Brunch at Kind of Blue. Sterlin and Shuvette Colvin, with their soulful performances, set the perfect mood. They sang all the favorites, engaging the audience in a way that made everyone feel part of the performance. Seeing them interact with the guests was heartwarming, creating a truly personal experience.
Whether celebrating a special event or just looking for a memorable meal, Kind of Blue provides a unique experience that feeds your heart and soul. If you're in Hilton Head, do yourself a favor and pay a visit. The live music, exceptional brunch buffet, delightful array of fruits and sweets, and bottomless mimosas make it a destination you won't...
Read moreI want to start by saying the entertainment and atmosphere were wonderful. However the service I received here was very disappointing. We were told to seat ourselves once entering. But for 20 mins no one came to the table to greet us…bring a menu….glass of water or anything. (And I add that Emily who ended up being our server as well as a red head made eye contact with the table more than once and no one ever stopped by.) Emily finally comes to the table. And everything is ok. The food was good. Nothing exceptional however enjoyable. It’s time to pay the bill. And here’s where we have a problem! We have a 50 dollar food voucher. Give her cash and a card to pay the balance. Emily took the cash and charged everything else to the card. When asked why my the card was charged the full balance. Emily stated, Oh I thought the cash was my tip. (She was also given a cash tip outside of the bill.) so she assumed she was given a $30 tip. Upset and annoyed Emily takes back the bill and states “I refunded you back the money to your card”. “Give it a couple of hours to show up” THE MONEY WAS NEVER REFUNDED. I contacted Sterling Coleman who is the owner or manager (I’m assuming). He states call the restaurant because he is not at work yet. I call the restaurant a hour or so later. After I state the reason for my call and a brief hold, I’m told there is no manager on duty. They take my information for a return call. And I have yet to hear back from anyone.
**Also I didn’t see this listed anywhere. But there was an entertainment fee of $10 per person. Which wasn’t bad for the...
