The Purple Cow — Restaurant in Hilton Head Island

I normally don't write reviews but in this case I have to share my thoughts. The customer experience in this place is horrendous. Right from the beginning the person in charge (who I assume is the owner) was working on several requests at the same time and seemed very disorganized. There was no menu or obvious way that orders would be taken. The owner repeatedly offered verbal instruction but we had to learn from other folks in line what the process was supposed to be. We also had to use our phones to see what the options were. Since we ordered one of the menu items that takes time to prepare, we had plenty of time soak in the experience. It was very disturbing to hear how the owner spoke to her staff. Since the entire staff is seen working behind the counter, her berating of her staff could be seen and heard by everyone in the shop. Furthermore, when another customer arrived to pick up her order and it was nowhere to be found, the owner barked to her staff that they should "steal from other orders" and make it up later. The experience was extremely stressful to watch. We were hoping to have a fun breakfast experience and it was so stressful we could not wait to leave. We were prepared to leave before our order was fulfilled but suddenly our order was ready to go. When we finished paying the owner loudly exclaimed "have wonderful day ladies" as if her sudden pleasant demeanor would make a difference. Horrendous and extremely upsetting. First time in this shop and ah…oof. Behind the bar was not clean. We witnessed multiple employees drop things on the floor and just put them back on the bar and on bottles. The baked goods were not covered which is a health violation. They don’t measure the syrup quantities so you’re never going to have consistent tasting lattes. My sister found a hair in her drink which I would normally disregard as a one time accident if I didn’t see the clear sanitary violations going in behind the bar. The owner (or who I assumed was) was rude, and short with us AND her staff. I felt bad for them they were working hard and getting yelled at by her (customers notice this stuff) The ONLY REASON IM GIVING 2 stars instead of one is for the tall barista who was nothing but nice to us and actually made our drinks. When it came time to pay I gave the lady $12 for 2 lattes (I believe my totally was 11 something) and she didn’t even give me my change back. Normally I would throw that in the tip jar anyways but it was very rude. She also disregarded us for about 5 mins as she texted someone back even though we were waiting to pay. Would...

(Edited upon owner's response) High hopes for this place that were met with great dissatisfaction. Having arrived with a solid 3+ hours left of operating business, there weren't a whole lot of options as far as baked goods. (I am aware how most donut shops function with "first come first served" supply but they don't post their hours till 4pm online.) The owner was less than enthusiastic and her snarky mood was apparent to me, my friend, and my 4 year old. The coffee was expensive for being lack luster, (sorry not sorry) and the vegan donut I did have was dry and flavorless. I really don't enjoy writing these negative reviews but this place could really use a proper Care Bear stare all around. I'm a huge donut advocate and I'm sad to say, that I will not be returning. I'll stick to my Alljoy Donuts any day! (I never once claimed that Alljoy currently carries vegan donuts because they don't but I hope they will in the near future for all our vegan patrons.
