We have been going there for about 2 years. We live in Hingham and eat out OFTEN. My BF liked the BOLOGNESE and got it every time. Nothing much else appealed to him. I got the Poke Bowl to try it because I found the menu too limiting. I was kind of forced to try something new. I LOVED it. It's really AMAZING. I got it with salmon, but I am guessing the TUNA would be just as good.
We returned a few weeks ago and the BOLOGNESE IS NO MORE....are you kidding me? Do you realize that when people can't find anything else, they will almost all agree on something like the Bolognese.
We just went again Sunday a few weeks ago and he ordered the fish and chips. He got a small, very curled up piece of fish. He did not like it. It was overdone and quite small. He hates to complain so he ate it. It must have come with 2 lbs. of French fries. He ate some; I ate some and we threw away over a pound. He loved the coleslaw.
With a house wine (I got Pinot Grigio since it was the cheapest white) at $11 a glass ....I put about 1/2 cup WATER in it, so I just want a cheap wine.....none there, I felt frustrated. Any company with a decent buyer can find a GOOD house wine for $8 or $9 a glass....easy peasy....done in a lot of good restaurants..
I ordered the Poke Bowl. They are playing around with this. They put SALAD in with it if you don't tell them you want the ORIGINAL poke bowl with no salad. They sometimes put it in a smaller bowl so it's harder to eat it. Some food parts are buried. I love the original one with the larger bowl and their amazing chips....I got the sweet chili sauce that comes with their shrimp appetizer and it's EXCELLENT with the POKE BOWL. You have to try this. It's the BEST POKE BOWL I have found anywhere.
Their burgers are excellent. We go back hoping the bolognese will be back....maybe this fall!!
Kelly is EXCELLENT at the bar. We really enjoyed her help and candor. We like all the servers at the bar. I do hope they find a less...
Read moreI recently had the displeasure of dining at The Beth in Hingham, and let me tell you, it was an experience I'd rather forget. As an American restaurant, one would expect to find a diverse menu showcasing classic American dishes with perhaps a modern twist. However, The Beth seems to have missed the memo entirely, opting instead to inundate their menu with heavy Asian influences.
Let's talk about the food itself. The flavors were utterly uninspired, lacking any depth or complexity. It's as if they took a generic Asian fusion cookbook and blindly followed the recipes without bothering to add any creativity or flair of their own. The result? Dishes that were bland, uninspiring, and downright forgettable.
Furthermore, the heavy Asian influence felt forced and out of place in an American restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I love Asian cuisine, but when I'm dining at an establishment that bills itself as American, I expect to see more variety and authenticity in the dishes offered. Instead, it felt like The Beth was trying too hard to be something it's not, and it showed in every dish we tried.
We dined on mothers day and wait times form the kitchen were absurd. Additionally we noticed alot of yelling and arguing coming from the kitchen as we sat nearby.
One member of our party got the summer salad and it was the most effortless and basic dish. So sad looking with a few pieces of watermelon and some kiwis on a giant plate of spinach. So bland and 0 effort.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a true American dining experience, look elsewhere. The Beth in Hingham is a disappointing mishmash of uninspired flavors and lackluster service, with a misguided attempt at Asian fusion that falls flat on its face. Save your money and your taste buds, and find a restaurant that knows what it means to serve up authentic American cuisine. The Beth used to be fantastic, I'm not sure who the executive chef is but they're clearly not in the right...
Read moreUnfortunately, our experience was not great The food was good as was the ambience, but the service was not. My family of 5(all adults) came for a late lunch/ early dinner Sunday. We asked to sit outside because it is summer and the area had a number of large umbrellas. We were seated and ordered drinks but by that time the sun shifted and we were in the blazing sun, our drinks were slippery and diluted because of the heat. We politely asked if we could move to a number of empty tables in the shade, saying we would carry our drinks to the next table. The server returned and told us that we could not move because all those tables may be needed. Mind you it was only 4pm, so we endured and ate very uncomfortably and even had to ask for utensils and napkins after our food arrived??? We could have used those napkins earlier to wipe our brows and necks. When we received the check I went inside and asked to speak to the manager who was standing well within earshot but ignored me. After he finally turned around he looked irritated. I explained our poor experience and that it would be reflected in the tip. He made NO effort to explain or apologized then turned away. I believe his name was Joe. Having worked for years as server, bartender and manager of eating establishments I would have fired him on the spot. Rude and very unprofessional. We will not be returning. I should add that there were many empty tables inside and were not given...
