I visited Otok Bakery in Hoboken and absolutely loved it! This artisan bakery celebrates true craftsmanshipāitās housed in a 120āyearāold coalāfired oven and delivers that cozy, oldāworld bakery charm ļæ¼ ļæ¼. The breads are handārolled daily by bakers with over 50 years of experience ļæ¼.
Hereās what I ordered: ⢠š„ Ham & Cheese Croissant ā Flaky, buttery, and generously filled. ⢠ā Cappuccino (regular milk) ā Smooth and creamy, exactly how I like it. ⢠ā Black Coffee ā Rich and boldāseriously woke me up. ⢠š§ Blueberry Muffin ā Moist, bursting with flavor, and perfectly sweet.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent with my wife for one of the family style dinners the owner's Maren & Bill host in the bakery. We had such a wonderful time. Dinner is served at tables in the back room where the coal oven is. There are only 12 seats at each dinner, and you are seated in the order you arrive. As the last two to sit, we ended up directly in front of the oven, which was admittedly a little toasty. I would recommend wearing something on the light and breezy side. Our group seemed to consist mostly of other local couples celebrating something. Folks generally were in good spirits and happy to chat. Once everyone had a drink (dinner is BYOB) the dinner got underway.
The first course was a tuna tartare with avocado in a light citrus dressing. Garlic and bacon wrapped dates followed, which were both very good. The main event was the steak for two, a Pat LaFrieda 40oz dry aged tomahawk ribeye, cooked in the oven to perfection. The steak was so tender and flavorful. It was accompanied by oven roasted asparagus, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. For dessert there was a molten chocolate cake, which we enjoyed. They also provided sparking and flat mineral water throughout dinner, as well as espresso at the end.
We had such a blast, I cannot say enough nice things about the team at Otok. We can't wait to come back. If you have the chance, this is absolutely...

Otok opened in place of a historic old school bakery and made it more accessible to a new generation of customers. The store is light, open, and airy. Tons of bread options with a smaller selection of a variety of baked goods.
The bread here is impressive - worlds apart from what you can get in a supermarket, and better than other bakeries/delis in town. Itās the type of bread you can eat with just butter and feel like youāre still really enjoying it.
As for other sweets, their almond croissants and chocolate chip cookies are both great. The cookies are usually have a good blend of crunch and softness, but unfortunately one time I seem to have gotten a cookie that went stale.
I hope that as other old school establishments sell or close their businesses as they retire, I hope Otok acts as a model for other new businesses to build on a legacy and keep adding to...
