El Patron Holland — Restaurant in Holland Charter Township

We have been coming to this restaurant location since the day it opened. Usually we have great experiences and delicious food. They are known for being speedy which we appreciate. However yesterday we had the worst possible experience. It was my son’s birthday and we met as a family at 5 o’clock knowing we needed to leave by 6 PM for another commitment. We told the waiter that right when we got there. Even knowing this, it took over 20 minutes just to take our order and then another 25 minutes for the food to be brought out. The restaurant was not busy. There was only one other table in our section with the couple in it. And on the other side of the building was two tables with people. They had other servers standing around, waiting to get stuff done, but our server was never seen. Never once did they check up on us and ask if we needed a refill on chips or water. By the time our food finally came out, the couple who had sat beside us in the restaurant and already eaten and was packing up their leftovers. When we realized we were not gonna have enough time to eat, we ask the waiter to package up our food in to go boxes, hoping we could just take it with us as soon as it came out. That still did not speed things along. I ended up having to leave before the food ever came out. It took 50 minutes for food to be brought out to us. So my son and I had to walk out, hungry, on his birthday and not once did they seem bothered by the fact that we had to go. There was no apologies from the server whatsoever. We just were neglected the entire time. This is the outlier for our experience. However, it has soured us to this location now. It’s gonna be quite a while before I’m willing to come back. Our server was a young Hispanic male with braces or a dental implant of some kind. This was on 3/24/2025...

Warning ⚠ trash on floor, food on floor. I spilled a small bit of salsa on floor so i wiped it up with a napkin. The floors were so dirty my napkin came up dark brown from how much dirt was on floor. Whens the last time it was cleaned?Our menu had old squished food inside of the pages, and grease all over. My husband had a squished lime in his menu. So we asked for new menus. 😔 Giving benefit of the doubt we ended up ordering fajitas hoping for some redemption but it only got worse. Food tasted terrible! like dirty grill, old oil and No seasonings. half a bellpepper was only partially chopped and still raw. witnessed the waitress drop a whole stack of "to go" boxes on the floor, pick them up off the floor and tried to give it to us. We Asked for a new box because we saw it was on the floor, waitress rolled her eyes, went back put the dirty box back on the cart (like we didn't see her) she gave us a new one, but proceeded to take dirty box to a different table for someone else instead of just tossing it.. Gross!! I warned the people who received their box it had been on the floor. They then asked for a new one. They didn't seem happy. Used the restroom while someone was throwing up. Yummy!!!!! Ended up not eating much, appetite was lost completely Threw all food away once we got home because of how weird it tasted and just knowing it was probably not safe to eat. It was obviously not a sanitary/clean environment. It was a trip to the toilet waiting to happen. And a waste if time and money. Won't go back again. Seems like they were good once but steadily declining. I like the decor and can't go wrong with rice and beans but otherwise I warn anyone who eats here ⚠ its not sanitary. I usually leave good reviews, but our experience at this restaurant was incredibly disappointing — and honestly, unacceptable. My family and I came in for what we hoped would be a nice night out with our family. Unfortunately, we never even got the chance to order food.

We were seated and waited over 30 minutes just to place a drink order. During that time, the waiter passed our table multiple times without so much as a greeting. I attempted to make polite eye contact to signal we were ready, but he continued to avoid our table while actively serving others — even though the restaurant wasn’t very busy.

When our drinks finally came, he set them down and walked off again — no menus, no check-in, nothing. Then we didn’t see him for another 20 minutes. What made this situation feel even more frustrating and pointed was that a white couple came in nearly an hour after us, was greeted immediately, and received their drinks and appetizers within minutes. It was hard not to notice the difference in treatment.

Eventually, I flagged down another server to ask for the bill for the single drink I had — my family had only ordered water at that point. And wouldn’t you know it — the original waiter suddenly reappeared at our table for the first time in nearly an hour.

I’ve served my community as a law enforcement officer for over 12 years, and I know what respectful service looks like. This wasn’t that. It didn’t feel like bad service — it felt like selective service. I will never return, and I won’t recommend this place to anyone.
