It was late and China Kitchen was one of the only places in the area open that served Chinese food, so I thought I’d give it a try. Upon entering, it was apparent that appearance and atmosphere was not the top priority of the restaurant, but it wasn’t super dirty or anything so I went ahead and ordered. The staff seemed friendly but I was surprised when they told me that they did not accept credit cards. The food was ready pretty quickly and was still reasonably hot when I arrived home with it. I tried the General Tso chicken with fried rice and was not overly disappointed or blown away. The egg roll was ok but I would skip the crab rangoons, they just had an odd texture and taste. At the end of the day, China Kitchen is so-so but not nearly as good as other Chinese restaurants in the area such as Shanghai or China Inn on the north side. Given the price vs the quality, I’m not sure that I will return. If you do decide to try China Kitchen, make sure to bring cash.

China Kitchen is a decent spot for Chinese takeout. It does have a few tables in there, but it’s definitely not set up with dining there in mind. It’s also cash only, so keep that in mind. The food has always been okay when I’ve eaten there, but it’s kind of hit or miss. The general Tso’s chicken is typically good, but the moo shu chicken I had this last time didn’t have very much chicken. What meat there was was cut so finely as to be almost too fine. The hot and sour soup tasted good, but was on the thicker side. It’s worth a try from time to time (there aren’t many good Chinese options on the southside anymore), but your experience can vary.

It has been years since I have had good General Tso's chicken. That dry spell ended tonight. I had a combination meal and every part of it was fantastic. The atmosphere is deeply casual and the minimal seating indicates a focus on takeout/delivery. Service was deeply friendly but not oppressive. I would love to go back when I am back in town. A+

Ordered online because they sold Spring Rolls and our daughter is mostly veggie and our normal place doesn't sell them. Honestly, the whole experience was not the best. The food was really bad- plus they only took cash, (we didn't have any with us as we were coming from elsewhere- so we had to go home to get some). The Crab Rangoon's were missing from the order, the spring roll was slimy inside and a ton of pastry, with little filling - mostly mushrooms. My daughter did not like it. The veggie Lo Mein was definitely the best of the dishes we ordered- but greasy and with few veggies. The Singapore Mei Fun was just terrible- the meat and shrimp had a weird texture and didn't taste fresh. The veggies tasted musty and it was just bland, with a weird musty after taste. I couldn't even swallow the piece of shrimp I tried as it tasted like the smell of old fish tank water. (We recently had all the same dishes up in Spring Lake and they were all amazing). The beef chop suey was strange- the meat had such a weird texture and the sauce did not taste good at all and had a strange, gelatinous texture. I managed to eat the egg roll - but my hubby couldn't eat his. All the veggies tasted weird. All in all- non of us ate much and we basically threw away our entire meals. Even the fortune cookies were stale. So disappointed - we will never stray from China Inn South again, or the place in Spring Lake, - spring...

Hands down the BEST Chinese takeout in Holland, look no further! Out of all the places I've lived (the UP, Kalamazoo, Iowa City, New Jersey), China Kitchen is the best. I used to have it delivered to me an friends for lunch in High School, and still visit every time I visit home. See my profile for reviews of other Chinese restaurants - China Kitchen in Holland is the gold standard by which all the others are judged. They are consistent beyond imagination. I love their Mushu Pork, Pork Spare Ribs, and fried chicken wings in particular. However, my absolute favorite is their General Tso's Chicken. It has become a thing of legend on Holland's south side. Their General Tso's chicken is absolutely better than any other Chinese place I've ever been to - generous portions, chicken NOT covered in an inch of breading, spicy - not-overly-sweet rich sauce, and crispy crispy crispy - it even stays crispy on the drive home. The lunch specials feature fresh fried rice made for the order (unlike many places that serve it pre-made and stored in rice cookers). I would request China Kitchen's General Tso's as my last meal if I were ever on death row, although paradoxically, the only way I'd end up there is if something happened to...

PLEASE DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE!

Absolutely the worst Chinease food I've had in a while. My order was fairly simple: Orange chicken, chicken fried rice add green onion, and beef & broccoli. Let's start with the fried rice. I've never in my LIFE had fried rice that was yellow in color. Saffron rice??

That rice not once touched a Wok at all, and there is no soy sauce in it. Flavorless and bland. The chicken that was in it (if that was indeed chicken) tasted like it was boiled before it was added to the rice. The texture was extremely off and slimy, we had throw it out.

The Orange chicken's sauce was about the only think that tasted ok. It actually had bits of orange zest in it which was great, but the chicken came in these huge lumps that were round and solid. Very strange looking chicken balls. The beef and broccoli's gravy was light brown color. Watery and bitter

I've had Chinease food from several different places before and cook it myself and I KNOW it shouldn't be like this.

Idk what type of seasoning you guys use or what ever gravy you put your beef in but you need to stop. This is not Chinese food, to even call it thst...
