This place has gone downhill so badly since I got here 7 yrs ago. It used to be this friendly Cheers kinda spot (well, as much as you could get this close to Bham) and, although the place was always pretty packed, they had overflow parking in the back.
Now, you have to pay for the parking in back (I'm sure a ploy to get people in and out so others can sit and dine in, too, but still...). The parking up front has potholes all over you have to dodge.
I realize this is out of Seeds' control but their patrons truly are the worst. They're these Bham elitists who work at Samford and UAB usually and there's always this aura of "I'm better than you" when you walk in and people look at you. Speaking of which...
Their staff used to be pretty decent (never great like other specialty coffee places but better). They're now as equally condescending as the patrons. There were six kids just standing around all sort of recapping their weekends and it took 20 mins to get this measly meal while they aimlessly stood there gabbing ($10 for some eggs, bread, a banana, and out of season blackberries, btw). I guess you pay for parts and labor since they had to slice the banana and bread.
They tried opening a 2nd location in Lakeview years ago and it tanked. Wasn't even during COVID at all, so I think that speaks volumes. I just think what could've been such a great cafe and branched out into more locations, like others have done out of Hoover, has just plateaued due to the way management has chosen to take...
Read moreAlthough there are positives, it pains me to have to write this review because I know what this place is capable of doing.
I lived in W. Homewood for years and made Seeds a fairly regular stop. Always consistent, fresh and delicious. I moved out of town for a year and recently moved back. I don't know what happened in the past year, but someone in the kitchen doesn't seem to be paying attention to the details.
Positives: The drinks are very consistent, delicious, and well-crafted. And the vibe is cool with lots of seating options inside and out.
Negatives: The food I'm most familiar with is the biscuit. It USED to be so good that I never saw the need to order anything else. Here's where they fell far short. In the last week, I've been twice. I order the scrambled egg, provolone and avocado biscuit each time. First time, not much flavor or cheese, and biscuit was just okay. I get that anyone can have a bad day so I decided to give it another try. However, today, it was worse -- no flavor (not even salt/pepper, something, anything!) and barely any cheese. But the biscuit was rock hard, (as if it were a day old), tepid, and altogether unappetizing. I was surprised this was even allowed to be served. To be clear, all the other food looks appetizing, but I haven't tried it.
I hope whoever reads this takes my comments to heart and makes it better. I want to support a LOCAL...
