If you want quality food or service, DO NOT call Steakout Birmingham (Homewood). I will not be a Customer any more.
I’ve ordered food probably 15 times from this place (mostly in desperate times), and have been satisfied with the food quality maybe three times. The service is almost always below par - even for delivery only. Let me explain.
Food: The quality control and reliability of the steak temperature is pitiful. I’ve ordered medium rare every single time, but 8/10 times they deliver a medium well or even well done steak. I get it, this isn’t Ruth’s Chris, but steak is the primary menu item - you can at least get the temperature right a majority of the time. I finally got fed up with receiving over-cooked steaks that I called Steakout to give them feedback (more on that below).
The lettuce that comes in the salad is almost always wilted and browning on the edges. The baked potato is sometimes not cooked through.
Overall, the food is hit or miss, and more often than not, it is a big miss.
Service: I am not expecting Ruth’s Chris service from Steakout, but I do expect the staff to be pleasant and treat the customer with ultimate respect. You will not find either at Steakout in Birmingham, especially from one of their managers named Kevin.
I once called to inform the manager that the two steaks just delivered to my residence were overcooked (well done instead of medium rare) - mind you, this was probably the fifth time in a row and I was disappointed. Kevin gave me a credit towards my future purchase (which I thought was a great service point). A few weeks later I used half of my credit, and Kevin reminded me that I had the remaining credits to use at a future date. Within three months after that, I tried to use the remaining credits and was told the credits were expired. The guy on the phone taking my order (Gary) was talking to Kevin, his manager, in the background - Kevin told him that Steakout had no record of my credits. Absolute garbage. The guy on the phone (Gary) told me he wasn’t even aware that credit expire, and said the record probably got thrown away because the records they keep are written. Kevin didn’t care and was not interested in making anything right.
Anyhow, I am done with Steakout Birmingham. They are a terrible example of how to prepare and deliver a budget steak. Anyone who wants to open a steak delivery business could easily compete by focusing on quality product and service.

Steak-Out is unique to Alabama and unique in general. I travel extensively and aside from high-end restaurants that offer room service, I have not found anyone who DELIVERS such great tasting steaks. Their steaks are consistently tender, juicy and flavorful (The Ribeyes are anyway, that's all that I've tried). The prices are very reasonable yet the quality is almost on par with steaks purchased at "upscale" restaurants in the $40 - $60 range. Really.
The staff is always friendly and courteous to me. Alabama, I like you guys, not as much as Texans but I like you nonetheless. You are smart, fun and friendly. You have a good thing going. Keep it up. To the guys at the Steakhouse in Birmingham and all over Alabama, keep up the good work.
Update - Their website advertises a closing time of ten pm. I came off of the freeway, twenty minutes out of my way to get here at just after nine. They are closed. This is pitiful. Horrible business. They just lost a steady customer. I hope they close down like the rest of them.
Just called at nine twenty-five. They answered the phone ready to take my order. Apparently they are still open. Just not for me.
Update 8.11.18 In response to response from Steak-Out. Your website does not state that you close at nine for walk-ins. If it did do you think I would have been there at 9:45 to place an order? What do you think, that I'm stupid?...
Read moreHere visiting from out of town due to my daughter having surgery today at the Benjamin Russell Hospital For Children. The Manager VERY rude! Food wasn’t cooked well done like asked when my mom and I just ordered! My mom called back to tell them it wasn’t right and would like a refund. Ticket was voided but when my mom calls to ask will her money go directly back to her card and will it be available as soon as it’s refunded (Basically checking time frame on when it’ll be back on i.e. 3-5 busy days etc). Manager gets smart and makes a statement “well you got your money back and free food I don’t know what else you want” and hangs up the phone.!🤬 FIRST AND FOREMOST once I opened my plate I knew then my steak was way to light to be well done! I picked up a piece an TRIED that’s right TRIED to rip it in half to check the middle and it wasn’t ripping easily! When I finally did rip it, it was so pink in the middle with blood coming out when I was tearing it open and had the rawness an blood smell of meat that’s NOT WELL DONE!!
