Dennys
Visited 30 December 2022, just after 1pm
The dinner is strategically located on the corner right across from the zoo, not too far from the beach, and a short walk from some major hotels. We visited after our trip to the zoo.
Everything was going well. Our party of 4 was greeted and seated promptly. We each ordered, and when it was time for my mother to order, the waitress, Jehanna, informed her that she could order from the 55+ menu, which would be smaller portions at a cheaper rate. My mother opted for this option.
The food came out in a timely manner. However, this is when everything else soured. Three of the four orders were correct: philly cheese steak omlet, half zesty nachos, and chicken fried chicken with 2 eggs. My mother ordered salmon but got what looked like Mahi-mahi or chicken instead. When she informed the waitress of the error, she just stated "oh I didn't know," and walked away. So, we assumed she was going to correct the order. But, it was strange that she left the wrong plate in place. After about 10 minutes, she had not brought the salmon plate, so we had to flag her down. Again, when we asked if she put in the order for the salmon, she said "oh" and wanted to leave the plate with the sides that were now cold. My mother asked her to take the plate since she wanted hot sides when the salmon came out.
From the time our food came out to when she came to take the incorrect order, she did not check on the rest of us. It seems like she was avoiding our table at this point. She never came back to our table to check on us until she brought out the new order with salmon. We also ordered a t-bone steak dinner to-go, which came shortly afterward.
At this point, she asked if we were interested in desert. We were not, so we just asked for our bill.
Hopefully, this is an isolated incident, and the waitress doesn't just disregard other guest's orders like ours was.
Another thing. We held onto 2 menus after ordering because we were still looking, thinking we were going to order something else. Big mistake. The hostess who seated us noticed we still had them when she seated another party. She said we could just keep one since we were done ordering. That completely turned me off but I guess they were...
Read moreI'll start by saying that I didn't really want to try Dennys on the island but my husband came a few days ago and told me it was pretty good so I decided to give it a chance. The hostesses were pretty nice and took our names down because it was a small wait. We were promptly seated and waited a few minutes for our waitress to come. Our server, Daralyn, took our order and came back with our drinks. It seemed quick though it was busy. At one point my husband needed a refill for his coffee and I didn't get the side of fruit I asked for. We waited without seeing our server in sight. Again, I understand it was busy, but it had been awhile we hadn't been checked on because at this moment I finished my meal and my husband his coffee. Shortly after we saw her serve the table aside from us and all she asked was "how's everything going?" Didn't wait for a reply and ignored us to attend the other table. What made my husband upset was that the table ACROSS from us got coffee refills and were checked on while we seemed to be ignored and maybe not of importance to her. When the check came the fruit was still on there and I asked her to remove it. She did just that, but the attitude came off dismissive. I've worked food service before, I get it you have your days, BUT you need to at least pretend to be apologetic about completely missing a part of someone's order. She didn't offer solution just said "okay I'll remove it". Maybe it's just her in particular but the staff might want to consider some training in customer service. Taking off in the middle of your customers telling you what they need or want at the moment just isn't right, regardless of your mood. Do not recommend, there are way more breakfast places on Waikiki just a walk away with way friendlier staff and exceptional service. Save...
Read moreThee worst! My family and I were there vacationing and we were incredibly exhausted from my flight so my family and I ordered from Denny’s because it was literally walking distance from our hotel. We arrive to pickup and the gentleman tells us, ”I had them check it 3 and 4x to make sure everything was there!” I’ve heard that so many times and have been disappointed so I make it very important to check my food before leaving the establishment and I’m so glad that I did. I could tell he expected us to just grab the food and leave without checking the bag. Since all of the food was in take out containers, I checked the first 2 (of 7) items that we ordered and when I say almost everything was missing. There were wings with no sauce, nachos with no cheese, and other things. So after checking 4 of the 7 items, the gentleman is going back and forth from the kitchen to the dining area to bring us the missing items, we figure ok, we’re good now, but no, we get back to the hotel (mind u, it’s about 11ish pm when we pick up the food) and my sister discovers that her bourbon bacon burger literally has a piece of the patty, yes a piece of the patty instead of a full patty. Since we were exhausted, we just considered it a losing situation. The next morning my sister returns to Denny’s (providing them the picture of her burger. Initially they gave her a hard time but she had the order number and a receipt so they ended up having to refund the burger. It was a horrible start to our vacation! I think because it was a late night order, the employees figured that no one would really check the orders before leaving. I’m glad that we did (and the food tasted like it was just sitting under a heating lamp for a long time). This is why they...
