I chose to dine here on April 6 based on reviews about allergy accommodation, but unfortunately left very disappointed.
The restaurant was unusually busy (as the owner mentioned), with what seemed to be just the owner cooking and one staff member at the front. Upon ordering, I clearly communicated that I was Celiac and also had peanut and tree-nut allergies. My partner and I were sharing our meals, so the allergy note was requested for both bowls. The lady suggested we order a drink while we wait for our food, which my partner did.
After a 45-minute wait, our meals arrived but with substitutions (sides doubled up as they ran out of what we ordered) that were not communicated. I found sliced almonds in one of my sides, despite my allergy. After 10 mins of waiting for someone to be available, I asked the owner to clarify if there was nuts in any of the sides, he admitted there were almonds and possibly walnuts in the soba or brussel sprouts and explained there was no allergy note on the order. While he was very nice and apologetic, no solution was offered, and I was left with nothing safe to eat. We also did not receive the drink until after our food was served, what was the point of ordering the drink then?
To make matters worse, the front-of-house staff was visibly overwhelmed and unwelcoming. There was no effort made to notify customers about substitutions, reservation/order cancellations, or delays—something I witnessed multiple guests frustrated over.
For a restaurant that promotes itself as allergy/diet preference-aware, this experience was unacceptable. We left our $47 meals untouched and...
Read moreI ordered a raspberry matcha latte with açaí bowl, and it was pretty good. The raspberry matcha was pretty sweet though, but that must be due to the raspberry flavor infused with the drink. The matcha wasn’t bitter, which was a pleasant thing, especially at night. The açaí bowl was pretty good, and the presentation was cute. The honey was an additional $0.70 charge. The oats were kinda hard, but the taste was there and complimented the whole thing.
There was only one worker working at that time, so I had to wait for a while since there were other customers waiting. You would usually get informed if you have to wait for a while by the employee before ordering. I’m not too sure how often that occurs, but be sure to clear your schedule for the day when you visit this place.
The atmosphere is pretty calming and there’s a big window to just chill out and watch the cars go by. Also the employee was super nice when clarifying my order and talking to the customers. He also gave out a sample of a new smoothie (apple banana smoothie) he was thinking of, which was pretty cool. The smoothie was unique and really delicious. Super chill guy. Would go here again when I...
Read moreWorst experience at a cafes/restaurants own by Japanese. Ordered French toast with baguette. When it was brought in front of me, I saw that the bottom was burned but didn't say anything to a server. Turned them over and saw most of them were burned but since I don't like wasting food so I started scraping bottoms off and finally started eating. The lady, who might've been an owner who spoke in Japanese with Western accent was sitting at the table next to me with two visitors chatting all the time I was working on removing the burn but paid no attention. A side dish was served late, about which I asked beforehand if the ingredients were fresh instead of frozen and the answer was yes fresh tasted like frozen. When the owner looking lady came back to pick up the (almost) empty plate, she must've seen the pile of burned bottoms but said nothing. That was it. Beyond my patience. I told her that state of French toast shouldn't have been served and she said cheerfully 'I'll let the kitchen know~🎶'. Worst service and low quality of food. I will never...
