Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice in Honolulu is a must-visit destination for any visitor or local seeking a refreshing treat. This popular spot is always busy with people, and it's easy to see why. The quality of their shaved ice is simply exceptional.
One of the most remarkable things about Ululani's shaved ice is its texture. It's unlike any other shaved ice I've ever had. The ice is incredibly smooth and fluffy, almost like cotton candy but denser. It's a truly unique experience.
While there was a short wait of 5-10 minutes to order, the service was efficient and friendly. The staff was attentive and helpful, ensuring that we had a pleasant experience.
We tried several flavors, and each one was delicious. The classic flavors, like mango and strawberry, were particularly good. Ululani's does a fantastic job of balancing sweetness and tartness.
The indoor air-conditioned seating is a great feature, especially on hot days. Additionally, there's a small parking lot right outside the shop which is very convenient.
Overall, Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice is a must-try for anyone visiting Honolulu. The quality of the shave ice, combined with the friendly service and comfortable atmosphere, makes it a standout...
Read moreNew-ish shave ice spot on Kapahulu, and a transplant from Maui to boot. First impression when walking in and seeing the menu was their that prices are high, and that thought was confirmed after looking around and seeing the size of other customers' cups. They do have a extensive flavor menu that's a bit easier to navigate than places like Waiola.
I went with one of their preset combos called "Sour Tart" which contains sour apple, sour lemon, and pink lemonade. The colors are nice but the flavors were a bit weird. None of them were sour to me, and the pink lemonade flavor was weak compared to the sour lemon. Sour apple tasted like a jolly rancher. And there was waaaay too much syrup! By the time I had eaten 3/4s of the cup, the remaining ice was swimming in a pool of syrup that was making me gag with every bite due to the ridiculous sweetness and the feeling of syrup coating my throat. I had to throw the rest away.
Between the high prices and over-syruped ice, I would rather go to other shave ice places. I would like to think I just had a heavy-handed server,...
Read moreOn a whim, driven by extreme humidity, we thought to give Ululani’s a try. I apologize for my half-eaten photo. It took me that long to STOP eating and take a picture. Two sizes, keiki and Ulu. If you’re not sure, get a keiki. These guys are going to be around for a looonng time and you’ll have many opportunities to work through the menu.
I got a keiki with haupia ice cream (Roselani), broke-da-mouth syrup (pickled mango + li hing mui) plus mochi and haupia cream add ons. The custom syrup mixes are 🔥and the Roselani ice cream is 💣. Haupia cream is delish (I should have bought a double serving). The mochi was good, although my personal preference is a little softer (less chewy), so I will probably skip it next time and go for extra haupia cream. Just under $25 for two (a keiki @$5.99 and an Ulu @$7.25 plus add-ons). Flavor and shave ice texture is a 10 for me (5-stars for Google) AND that is my final answer....
